DD will be 2 in about a week and a half. She tells us when she needs changed and sometimes she says "I pee pee" which translates to "I need to pee" but she only goes about half the time she says she needs to. Most of these times are when I'm in the bathroom. We've bought "big girl panties" and pull ups, and she'll occasionally let us put a pull up on her, but not the regular underwear. Is it too soon to be training her? I've had family members tell me she's not ready yet and others tell me she should've been trained a long time ago (at 12 months). Also, we're in the process of moving and I don't know if that will set her back if we start before she adjusts to the new house. DD is our first child, so I'm in real need of some advice.
Yes, you should go ahead and start training as soon as you get settled into your new house. The longer you wait, the more difficult it tends to be for most kids. Look at it this way, habits that are only a year to two years old are much easier to break than habits that are 2 to 3 years old, etc. So, the sooner you can get her trained, the better. I would wait until after the move though because kids tend to regress when changes come into their lives, especially if the changes come rather soon after being potty trained.
This is the method I recommend: http://www.cafemom.com/group/562/forums/read/4235060/3_Day_Potty_Training_Post. It's what I used with my son when he was 23 months old and it worked great for us.
Let me know if you have questions.
I completely support the 3 day potty training method.. but I wanted to add.. Have you let her pick out the "big girl underwear"? I recently started training my son and I let him pick out his underwear and now he's more than excited to wear it.. before he wanted nothing to do with it.
Good luck!
When we went to the store a little while back, we went to the baby department and let her look at the panties they had and she picked them out, but now she won't have anything to do with them. Maybe it was a little too long ago that we let her pick them out? She gets excited about sitting on the potty chair, but not about the big girl panties. I don't know if I should take her to get more to see if she'll do better with them.

More than likely she knows that she can't pee in them without feeling the negative effects of the pee running down her legs and that's why she's not so excited about them anymore. A lot of kids end up feeling that way once they realize underwear don't do the same job that pull ups/diapers do.
Ok, so I started with the big girl panties this morning. It was a little late in the morning it happened though, around 11... we kinda slept in a little this morning. She's done pretty well so far... only peed in her panties 3 times, but not at all in her potty chair. She'll tell me that she peed after she does it. She's been all over the house today. Hopefully she'll get the idea to tell me before she goes soon.
ETA: DH got all pissy cause DD peed on his chair he bought for gaming so DD was put into a pull up... now I have to start all over again at a later date. ![]()
