He's regressed, any suggestions?

My 17 month old son has been potty trained for a couple of months now and was doing wonderfully.  He had no problems with either poop nor potty and was even starting to wake up dry on occasion from naps.  Last Friday I was in the hospital having my baby and while I was still there, my husband was admitted to the hospital as well for some problems he was having.  It was very stressful for all involved and my 17 month old starting having poopy accidents.  I came home late Saturday night and he has continued to have accidents.  He still goes potty just fine but he hasn't gone poop in the toilet since I went to the hospital.  I know he's acting out because he didn't know what was going on and I have tried maintaining a positive attitude about the situation but I am tired of changing poopy accidents and having him refuse to poop in the toilet.  My husband just came home this evening from the hospital so I have been trying to maintain order by myself with a newborn and I am at the end of my rope with the whole issue.  Any suggestions as to getting him back on track?

I'd start a reward for poop only and see if that will help him get back on track.  He's had TONS of craziness going on in his life and has had no control over any of it.  It's very common for a newly trained child to regress when a new baby comes along and with that PLUS dad being gone, his whole world was basically turned upside down.

Hang in there and he'll get back on track once life gets settled back down into the new normal.

Thank you.  I figured but wanted to ask anyway.  I have no problems with a poop reward, he just hasn't gone in the toilet yet.  When he does, he can have a special reward.  I/ll just keep trying.
