Hi,
I have 2 beautiful sons, a 11 month old and a 3 year 2 month old. I started trying to potty train my son the weekend before christmas. he seemed interested and was happy to put on regular underwear - everyday leading up to christmas eve, i tried putting him on every 1hour and he was successfull 1-2 times in the day doing both pee and poop. My husband was home from christmas eve to monday 27th(snowed in due to blizzard), THATS when things started to go bad, my husband kinda reluctantly put him on the potty when i told him to but nothing happened whole weekend - except when my husband left for a few hours on sunday and I got my son to make a huge poop on the toilet. but now he keeps telling me no when i ask him if he has to go pee or poo-poo. Tuesday he was only successful once with peeing on the toilet.
bribe with stickers only lasted 2 days, cann't offer m&ms or other candy, promising french fries is not working anymore, praising him is not very helpful.
he has a severe speech delay but has words and can say "i go peepee/poo-poo in the potty/toilet" , but does not tell me when he has to go.
how do i get my son to tell me he has to go pee-pee? I can mostly tell when he has to poop because he stops playing or whatever and stays still like he is really concentrating on pushing it out and I am able to get him to the toilet on time to poop.
Wearing regular underwear does not seem to help because he just keeps playing even when he pees through it
ANY ADVICE?
This is the best option for most kids: http://www.cafemom.com/journals/read/1182517/3_Day_Potty_Training.
Let me know what questions you have.
Quoting Lcherniske:
Try letting him be naked from the waist down (put a big shirt on him.)
Most kids that are trained with no clothes on (at least no underwear and/or pants) end up having to be retrained once clothes go back on. I don't recommend people using that method to train their kids because I've seen tons of moms come thru the group having trained that way and then they have to totally retrain once clothes go back on. No need to train twice if you can only train once, ya know?!
