Hi,
I just wanted to write to offer support to other moms out there whose children are pee trained but who refuse to poop on the potty.
My DD was pee trained through the Three Day Method at 2 1/2. She would not poop on the potty. I tried EVERYTHING! We would try, but then she would hold it in until she got her nighttime pull up.
Finally, I put her in the bathroom after lunch and told her she could come out when she pooped. I put up a gate so that I could see her. She held out for 3 hours and 42 minutes on the first day. She sang to herself, and walked around, made up stories, and begged to come out. I told her "No problem. You can come out as soon as you poop. It's your choice." Finally I got a magazine and completely ignored her while I sat outside the gate and she pooped. She immediately got to go watch Sesame Street, which is what she wanted to do.
The next date it took her about 5 minutes. The next no time she just sat down and did it.
It's been a month and we have no problems now. She actually likes to do it now so she goes before her nap and before her nighttime bath.
So just like the Three Day Method it's sort of brutal the first day while you are in the middle of it, but just stay calm and relaxed like its the most natural thing and make sure your child understands that he or she controls when they get to come out.

Thanks for sharing. We were really lucky with DD who basically poop trained herself really early but I had no idea what I'd do if she hadn't and I have no ideas for friends who are currently going through this. I assume after lunch was a common pooping time for her so it was reasonable to assume she'd go then.
I can't believe you held out for so long that first day. Not being critical-- just lots of dedication! Wow!
Yes, I forgot to write that she pooped everyday right after lunch before her nap when she was in diapers for over two years. I mistakenly thought that would make it easier to poop train her! :)
It seemed like forever for me while I was waiting, but she was having a great time walking around the bathroom signing to herself. As I said, I tried EVERYTHING and she had been pee trained for 7 months so the time had come. It has been said in other poop jail posts that the child isn't made to sit on the potty the whole time, they are just not allowed to come out of the bathroom which I think is an important distinction. Tell your friends it's worth a try! :)
