Help!

My son wll be 2 on Friday...(Happy Birhday!)  We started potty training  towards the end of June.  We used the 3 day method...In the beginning, it was VERY hard .  We went through many pairs of wet underwear, clean ups, etc.  Thanks to the support of Cafe Mom and my consistency, we made it through hurdle one...actually going to the potty...Then came hurdle 2...my son wouldn't tell me he had to go to the potty until AFTER he wet himself...whew...we go through that hurdle.   The area I need help or suggestion is.....how do I get him to just go to the potty on his own?  I want to say that he is almost completely trained.  He stays dry for at least 2 hours and when he has to go, he'll tell me but he wants me to go with him.  He'll wait for me to stop what I'm doing and "escort" him to the bathroom..this sometimes results in small accidents.  Help,  how do I get him to just go to te bathroom on his own?

Thanks,

Tired mom

Start rewarding him for when he starts heading to the bathroom without you and gets started pulling his pants down, etc.

You may need to keep a light on in the bathroom so he's not worried about it being dark or scary in there.

Congrats on the success though!  It's a great feeling isn't it! :-)

You could also start leaving the room for a few minutes at a time so he gets used to being in the bathroom alone.  And extend your time away a bit more and more each time.

It really does get there.  Before long he'll be telling you "I can do it myself, don't come with me!"  LOL
