PenPals for our older children :)

I thought we could start our pen pal program right here - I need some input however. What do you all feel comfortable with? E-mails can be set up for our children to securely and safely ONLY receive e-mails from dictated senders - this is one option.

The other option is good old fashion pen pal - using pencils and paper, envelopes and stamps - and having the kids enjoy the excitment and anticipation of receiving their very own mail. Like I said - input is needed, have any of you participated in anything like this before? Doubts? Reservations? I would like to know ! I remember one thing from when I was a child that really had an impact on my elementary school years - we always had a penpal to write to from another school district and in the spring there would be a picnic where we would finally get to meet our far away writing mate. I loved this.

Maybe we could begin something like this within our group? Let's talk!!

I love the idea. I have a nine year old girl, who loves to receive mail. She did something like that in school...the picnic at the end. She really liked meeting her new friends.

That is so cool! So far you're the only person that is interested, I know my daughter would love to do something like this - my daughter is 7 - let me know if you'd like to go ahead with this and I'd be more than happy to forward name and address to get these little penpallers started!

hey - I'm sorry its been so long - my daughter's email address is available, I'll email you directly with it, but she won't be able to receive anything until I place your childs email address in as a safe address.

Hi, I just joined the Rochester Hills group today and found this post.  My daughter would love to have a penpal!  She's in third grade, 9 years old in June.  E-mail would be best, I think, but she likes writing letters too!  How is the penpal group going so far?
