Hey there and welcome to our Group!! Even more so - Welcome to Michigan!! Troy I am sure you will find very different from Rhode Island - but awesome in its own way none the less! There are so many different things to do in our area - and just to name a few for you :

First and foremost these three sites will be very helpful to you:

http://www.ci.troy.mi.us/ for the city of Troy

http://www.ci.rochester.mi.us/ for the city of Rochester

http://www.rochesterhills.org for the city of Rochester Hills

During the summer downtown Rochester holds Movie nights in the park - the movies are free and start at dusk on Saturdays, dogs are allowed in this particular park with permit only - which can be acquired at the Police Station adjacent to the park itself.

Every Saturday in Rochester there is a farmers market - and many summer events like - right now the summer sidewalk sales are going on - and the shops are awesome!

I'm partial to Bloomer Park which is a Rochester Hills Park at the north END of John R. John R. Road ends at the Park Entrance just one mile north of Avon Road (Also called 23 mile)

Things to remember - the mile roads:

15 mile = Maple Road
16 mile = Big Beaver Road (Which is nationally known for its exit off of I-75 because it is Exit 69 :P lol!!!)
17 mile = Wattles
18 mile = Long Lake

Oh yes, major shopping to be done at Somerset - a higher end mall located between Crooks and Coolidge off of Big Beaver. The mall spans the south and north sides of the road connected by an enclosed walkway across the road. EXCELLENT place to take your child for a stroll.

There are many different restaurants along that Big Beaver stretch as well.

Another local necessity Meijer - Rochester Road and Auburn - there are many many shops in this area, including a Target. I really could go on about these different things.

If you check out the Troy site there are tons of activities that are held at their Civic Center and I currently have my three kids in R.A.R.A. daycamp for the summer which is a program held out of Rochester. They host all kinds of camps, sports, and general workshops for just about any child's age, and adult programs as well.

I think I'm going to take a break on this and if I think of more I will post more!! Feel free to ask any questions!

Also - this is something that I haven't posted yet but I'm having a large picnic at Bloomer Park on September 2, 2007 and will be inviting our local CafeMom ladies to join. More info to follow, but I would love for you to join us - would give you the opportunity to meet some more people and there is a HUGE playground right next to where the party is being held. Lots going on!! Do you have any family in this area?

Talk to you soon,

Elizabeth

Most of what I was gonna say was covered already LOL!!

My DH is a sergeant on the Rochester Fire Department and they hold a lot of events that are open to the public, as does the Troy FD (his friend is on the TFD), and the RHFD. Like pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners, open houses, etc. If you're interested in that kind of thing.

The movies in the moonlight in Rochester is awesome. As is the Fire & Ice Festival, and there's an Eco Festival coming up shortly.

We love going to Stoney Creek Metropark. We depend on RARA for swimming lessons, dance lessons, and all sorts of other activities. Great program! Also look into Dinosaur Hill in Rochester Hills (it's back in a subdivision off of Tienken between Livernois & Rochester Rd) - they have tons of cool nature programs for the kids, especially the little ones, and do birthday parties too!

Our favorite Cider Mill is Big Red's on Romeo Rd (32 Mile I believe). They're open year round for goodies (pies, fruits, veggies, etc.) and we go several times a year, not just in the fall! They have lots of activities for the kids though in the fall.

There's so much!! I lived in Livonia, about 45 minutes west of this area, for most of my life and just moved this way when I moved in with my DH in 2006. I love it cuz there's always so much going on and so much to do, and it's usually easy to find something no matter what kind of budget you're on.

Welcome to the area!

Hi and welcome to the area. I live about 20 minutes west of you in Bloomfield. In Troy, there is a whole Foods market on the corner of Coolidge and Maple and some other great stores just south of there such as Home Depot and many, many more. We used to go to Troy all the time because of a roller rink but have since switched to ice. If your little girl is interested in Learn to Skate, there's a terrific program at the Detroit Skating Club (one of the best facilities in the country). They start them at 3 and there are classes during the week and on Saturdays.

I also have a terrific pediatrician (not close however) who does traditional and alternative medicine. If I can help you find any resources, please don't hesitate to ask.

Deborah
