I have fibroids. I'm always tired, no energy, periods every 20 days lasting 7 days. My family doctor suggested that I get the fibroids removed. I had an ablasion 1 1/2 years ago because I was anemic from the heavy bleeding. I'm now on progesterone to stop the bleeding. Not working. I finally called my gyn and said I was ready for the surgery and she said if I do nothing that the fibroids will shrink after I go into menopause. I'm 54. She wants me to wait until I get my next period to see how heavy it is before deciding to do anything.
Any suggestions.

hi, I'm new here. I am 53 with fibroids. I have very very heavy periods that last from 7 to 10 days and work and hate the first 4-5 days. I have tried vitamins, fibrovan, (no good at all) progesterone which seemed to make them grow bigger. I heard that they shrink after you go into menopause but I feel like I'll never get there. Just about ready to find a dr to remove them.

I'm 55 and waiting to hear from my doctor about my options. The periods are not bad but the pain the rest of the month sucks and it hurts to have sex. That part has to stop! I'm not losing a doggone good lay over fibroids.
I had a d&c for them ten years ago. That worked great but this new doctor doesn't seem to like that option. Not sure why. It's quick and easy, fast recovery time, cheaper than a hysterectomy. Even if it stalls for time for menopause to set in and make them shrink, that works for me. Plus it's only 2 weeks without sex instead of 8 with the other ugly option. I say 8 instead of 6 because my guy is a rough dude when it comes to sex and pounds really hard (tmi?)

Hi,
I am 54 also. We sound like we have exactly the same symptoms. My OBGYN put me on hormones to stop the bleeding. That worked for about two weeks, then I started spotting again. I got on the internet, and found a product called Fibrovan. It's an all natural product which is supposed to shink the fibroids in three months. I started taking these, got off of the hormone pills, and the bleeding/spotting stopped completely within three days. I am going in for another sonogram in three weeks. I'm anxious to see if they are shinking at all. That will be the ultimate test. I feel much better getting off of the hormones and taking this product. I will keep you posted on my sonogram result. And, yes, I understand that fibroids shink during menopause. I'm going to hang in there for that, as I absolutely do not want a hysterectomy. Now a days, it is not recommended like it used to be. Get on Google also and read, read, read. You will find lots of good information out there. Sounds like you have a good OBGYN.
Hang in there.

Quoting bev923:Estrogen dominance increases the likelihood of fibrocystic breasts, uterine fibroids, uterine (endometrial) cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colo-rectal cancer due to estrogen's cell proliferation function. Progesterone neutralizes this effect by differentiating cells.
