Ok, here's our situation...
I have a stepdaughter who will be 5 in January. She 42+ inches tall and probably 40+ pounds. I'm not sure exactly, but she uses a high back booster which makes the seat belt hit the right places. It's a Cosco booster seat.
I have a daughter that will be 11 months old tomorrow (Oct. 27th), she weighs just over 20 pounds. She rides in a Evenflo Symphony (rear facing, obviously) that my mom bought her to replace the infant seat. Caroline hated the infant seat!
We are expecting another baby in late June. We want to start looking at carseats now so we can save up the money in plenty of time for the baby's arrival.
My car is a 2005 Buick Rendevous that seats 5. We couldn't afford the model with 3 rows of seats and didn't need it at the time. We were discussing car seats and I realized that the latches are only on the two outside seats in the back. The middle seat does not have the latches to attach a car seat. Now the booster does not use the latches, but both younger babies' seat will.
My husband and I both have long legs so having the front seats too far forward is dangerous for us to drive - not to mention miserable.
I'm wondering what would be a good, reasonably-priced seat for the baby. I don't want to use an infant seat since that was a nightmare with Caroline and we'll most likely be using a double stroller when I need it.
Also, what would be the best way to postition the kids in the car so they are all safe?
I hope this was all clear - if not, just ask.
Thanks a bunch!
Mary

Have you looked at the Combi Coccorro? Super narrow seat, and even reclined for a newbie you and your DH will have plenty of room up front. She *will* need another seat however, but this will at least last 3yrs, or more since it is a shorter seat than most and has a lower RFing limit of 33lbs vs 35-45lbs on other models.
You *might* want to start thinking about replacing either the booster or the Symphony with something more narrow, but I honestly think if you get a Coccoro and then up-grade your vechicle by the time the newbie outgrows it you should be able to do a 3-across with the seats your older girls already have.
LATCH is no safer than the seatbelt-UNLESS you can get a better install wtih LATCH. Your boostered daughter is the most vunerable in an accident, so place her in the middle, if at all possible. The safest place for any seat is the place you can get the best install.
Here is a great deal, if you want the Chestnut, for approx $127

Most likely we'll use the Symphony for the new baby. We do have the booster with a removable cup holder so that will make more room. I think if we use the two we have and get a different one for Caroline (she'll be about 19 months when the baby arrives) then we should be ok.
So, in all of your opinions, would the safest location for all the kids be oldest (5 year old in a booster) in the middle and the two kids on either side? If so, which one behind the driver's seat and which one behind the passenger? I am either driving or riding. My husband is mostly the driver when in my car so he rarely is in the passenger seat.
Thanks everyone!
