Need new seat for small car - needs to travel well?

Hello-
I have a 34 pound, 40 inch three year old who just grew out of her father's car "extra seat". I was looking forward to traveling with her Cosco seat because it was lightweight. Now I am not sure which seat to purchase since my husband drives a Toyota Matrix which has a small back seat for our three kids. I have a minivan and a new Britax which I am very happy with. She only rides in her dads car maybe once a week. Any recommendations for a good back up seat that travels well on airplanes? Thanks!

You will likely be wanting a seat that will harness past 40lbs at her weight..and most of them are not very light in comparison to the Cosco seats. If you have a headrest in your vehicle, you could try the Apex 65, http://www.albeebaby.com/sa1stap65boc.html and right now, they have 15% off with the coupon code 15off. This isn't my favorite seat (only b/c the Graco Nautilus--which is heavier and around $150+ is much taller than the Apex), but for occasional use, it is fine.

Well this seat won't harness above 40lbs, but since she is only 34 you might have a while, and it makes a TERRIBLE booster, but I'd ditch it at that point anyway. Its light weight, has fairly high harness slots, and its narrow. Graco Ultra Cargo...
ETA: I've seen the Apex at Big Lots for $85 recently! But it is a wider seat.
