Hi,

I'm new here.  My daughter is 13 and was diagnosed with JRA about a month in a half ago.  I am still very ignorant about this whole thing. I am hoping that maybe some of you guys can help me.

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. There are tough times. My daughter (3.5 yrs old) was diagnosed at 18 mos. But now that we have found the right combo of medications, no one would know she has JRA except for some occasional minor flares.

Do you have any specific questions or concerns? What type of JRA does your daughter have?

Hang in there!

I am glad you found us because it does help to hear how others cope etc.  Everyone's experience is certainly unique.  My daughter was also 13 when diagnosed and was a severe case of inflammation.  Her rheumy injected the worst joints, being the ankles and she never really had too much trouble after that with them.  He said it could put out the fire permanently and since she is now 21, I think he may have been right.  She is on Humira now and it has served her very well.  Unfortunately it is very expensive and we have gone many rounds with our insurance company and others to try and get help with the cost.

I sure hope you have access to a good dr that both you and your daughter like.  Ask questions and keep the inflammation off the joints so there is no long term damage done.

Blessings.  Lyn
