Some Questions for Experienced Realtor Moms :)

Hi Everyone! So I am considering getting my real estate license (have been for a couple years now). My professional background is tied very closley with real estate so I have a great grasp as to the amount of work it inolves, etc.

Where I am REALLY in the dark is in regards to how I will do it and have a baby! I am expecting my first baby in October. One thing that I have going for me is that my husband is off work at 3:00 in the afternoon, and off on the weekends, and I know the majority of my work will be done evenings and weekends. Obviously though, that won't always be the case.

I am just looking for any feedback/exeriences/pearls of wisdom some realtor moms can give me who were/are Realtors during pregnancy and with a new baby. For example, did you ever feel unsafe if you were showing a home by yourself and super pregnant? Have you ever had to bring your baby with you? Just wanting to know if its really possible. :)

Thanks so much in advance!

I have a big article on Active Rain about taking our children on showings &/or to the office. Some Realtors (that have children) think it's ok.  Most Realtors whether they have children or not KNOW it is NOT ok.

It lacks professionalism& can hinder your ability to give great customer service. So, that being said. Hopefully, you will not be in the situation of taking your baby, toddler or grade-schooler with you on an appt. I received 100's of responses to my article which 95% agreed that it's not the way you want to be represented.. (in a nutshell)

When you are pregnant you place yourself with the same amount of vulnerability as people that have arthritis or they areheavy & can't maneuver/run,  etc.  Ya know like people that can't defend themselves as well as people that are built, strong, etc.

You should always be alert & take safety precautions in this line of work. Stun gun, real gun, mace, pepper spray, and I guess you can do what the RE Commissioners always push like always meet in the office first getting copes of licenses & stuff like that to appear to these stranger-clients that they better not hurt you... (I don't find getting copies of DL's helpful...well maybe to try to catch the guy after he kills ya...but whatever)  :-)
I usually will meet a stranger-client at the home as long as my gut is working & I FEEEEL comfortable in my own mind.

note:  When one is pregnant, you're like a mother tiger and feel MORE defensive for your unborn child. So, you may not be able to get your mind in the right place to feel comfy enough.  But, I really think being huge pregnant is technically the same as like a big, fat person that can't run or  likeif you're disabled in some other way...like I was just off of chemotherapy & I was in pain from my bones seriously aching & had gained lotsa weight & I just didn't feel good.

I felt very much more vulnerable than when I am healthy & normal.

another note:  I actually got accosted by a client and held for about 25 minutes while he shoved me off walls and spit in my face. He wouldn't let me go for awhile.

Just wanted you to know that IT DOES HAPPEN...we Realtors are in a very dangerous job.

YA JUST NEVER KNOW WHO'S GONNA GO OFF THE DEEP END.

IT can happen to anyone BUT it just so happens that in RE we actually up our percentage greatly because we go into secluded buildings (homes) with STRANGERS EVERYDAY ON PURPOSE.

Keep us informed on how you progress with licensing and just ask if you have any other questions... good luck to you!!!
