I'm looking for books I can enjoy reading that are set in the following areas of the world.

Caribbean

South America

Africa

Antarctica

If you know of any, that you enjoyed, let me know, please!

Thanks!

For Africa, you might try The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay.  It's a wonderful coming-of-age story set in South Africa around and after WWII.  This is not a short novel, but it is worth the time you spend on it.

If you like mysteries, try the books of Bob Morris (Bahamarama, etc). Most are set in Florida and various Caribbean destinations.  Part of Brava Valentine by Adriana Trigiani is set in South America (can't remember which country-grrrr).  The #1 Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith is set in Botswana.  I know there is a memoir about a woman who discovered she had breast cancer while in Antarctica but I don't know the title.  Good luck

Out of Africa is a classic, you might try that one. There is the memoir of the Endurance Crew's voyage to the South Pole by Shackleton. The #1 Ladies Detective Agency? I have not read them but I think they are set in Africa. You could use something like Treasure Island or Robinson Crusoe for Caribbean.

Good ideas! Thanks!

Yes, I've read one of the Ladies Detective Agency. They are pretty good. I could read another.

Loved the movie as well.  Great choice!

The two books I had thought were set in South America are both set in Spain/Portugal.  Both are great stories and worth the read, anyway :-)

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

The Alchemist by Paul Coelho

For your Caribbean choice, why not try Hemmingway's The Old Man and the Sea. He also wrote several accounts of his time in Africa.

The brava, valentina was set in Buenos Aires Argentina. I believe the Poisionwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver was set in africa. It was really good!
