Does Rochester ever actually intend to marry Blanche Ingram?
i haven't read the whole book, but I've just passed the part where Jane and Mr. Rochester have become engaged.
It doesn't seem to make sense to me either way, since he basically told Jane that it was all a farce just to make her jelous and to make her profess her true feelings . . . and yet, why go about all of the partying and fuss if you are not intending to marry her? I mean, i got the impression that they were spending the whole summer, ( so like, 2 or 3 months ) together. Why go through all of that just to fake someone out? Let alone someone in your employ. I don't really think that it fits Mr. Rochester's character to lie like that. I suspect that he did intend to marry her originally.
