Have a Sci Fi/Fantasy recommendation?

Just read a great sci fi or fantasy?

Tell us about it here..

A little bit of what it was about without spoiling it would be great, so other moms know why it was so good, and will want to read it too!!

I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series!  Fantasy/romance...but it's a hard series to describe, with shape shifters and mythological Greek gods and immortal spirits interacting with humans.  My favorite (so far) out of the whole series is Acheron, but it's a hard, sometimes painful story to read.

On a Pale Horse by Piers Anthony

When Zane shot Death, he learned, too late, that he would have to assume his place, speeding over the world riding his pale horse, and ending the lives of others. Sooner than he would have thought possible, Zane found himself being drawn to Satan's plot. Already the Prince of Evil was forging a trap in which Zane must act to destroy Luna, the woman he loved...unless he could discover the only way out....
The first novel of the INCARNATIONS OF IMMORATLITY series.

Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb

Young Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father's gruff stableman. He is treated like an outcast by all the royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him sectetly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitz's blood runs the magic Skill--and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family. As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his first dangerous, soul-shattering mission. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to the survival of the kingdom.
