Well we've been having problems with Bella eating and having explosive diapers and we couldn't figure out what was causing it. She was put on pepcid which didn't help and had some tests done and they all came out fine. It was mac and cheese. That was the only thing she would eat all day sometimes. She stopped eating it last week and her diapers have been normal and she's been eating so much better. I'm going to give it one more week and if she's still doing better I'm going to try the low histamine diet I never really thought affected her until now. I feel kinda of guilty I didn't try it sooner.
There are a lot of people on the masto lists that say their doctors do not want them having any kind of dairy products at all. That it affects their masto! I know that Candi's allergist said that if her tummy cramps and diarrhea continued that we would take her completely off dairy for a couple of weeks and see how she did. Fortunately they stopped with the med adjustment. She would be something else without diary, especially milk and cheese! But, if it was necessary to her health it would be stopped!
Don't feel guilty. Not everyone needs to go on the low histamine diet or to have dairy stopped. This disease is complicated and different for each and everyone that has it. There doesn't seem to be a real constant in any part of this disease.
My oldest son has autism. To me masto is kind of like autism. No two people are the same and there are so many different types of masto just like in autism.
Glad that you were able to find out the reason behind the explosive diapers! Keep us updated on how she is doing! Take care and you are doing a great job mom! It's just a lot of trial and error, that's part of raising kids and it's just so much harder with one with a rare disease I have found!
Thanks for the words of encourgment. My grandmother was actually the one that thought it was the mac & cheese. She watched Mystery Diagnoses and saw the episode that had the boy with masto on it and they mentioned that dairy wasn't that good for them. She was doing fine until today. She vomited a lot today. I'm hoping it's just a stomach bug because I would hate to have to take more food out of her diet. She hardly eats anything as it is. She's very picky. hopefully tomorrow will be better for her.
I have been wanting to see that episode of Mystery Diagnosis. Funny how that show had it about the dairy when Candi's own doctor didn't know anything about it I found out on the masto list and even a lot of people on there hadn't heard about it either! Wish that there was some way that our doctors could get the info that the researchers have found out on masto so that we could be informed as well!
I too hope that she does better and that you don't need to change her diet even more! Poor little thing. Briana just started kindergarten and already the first week of school she had to miss Friday cuz she came down with a virus and then of course it went through out family. Candi was the next one to get it and she couldn't even take her meds the entire time she had it, couldn't keep even water down for the longest time and I was really worried about dehydration. Fortunately she was able to keep water down within 6 hours and the virus was completely gone in about 12 hours time. So she could drink, eat, and take her meds again! She has been flaring the past two days now again, not sure why either. Not much has changed and she has been over the virus for a while now. So hard this disease!
