Today was very very frustrating. I took my 14month to a appointment today that was with a new Dermatologist ( A specialist of specialist on U.P). It had taken a month and a half to get the appointment. This was do that they needed a referral from my doctor 3 times I talked to both my main physician and the Derm. office. Then I get there they tell me that they do not have my referral. This is after a hour and a half drive to the place. On top of everything I got lost and was 15 minutes late. They told me I could come in on Monday at 8:15 am but that they could not see me today. Also that I would have to understand that the doctor had a plane to catch and I was 20 minutes late according to them. I just did not get it I had given them the authorization number at the very lest over the phone that I had gotten for the insurance company. A very disorganized office in my opinion. I will admit this was not my finest hour, my head started hurting and I was crying. They did eventually let me in but by that time I was a mess. The Dr. said that she was surprised that he was not covered with blisters from what she had been told by our messages. I wanted to scream that he gets blisters and they are not pretty but that I had been working really really hard for them not to happen. I was wanting the appointment to see if their was anything extra that was none medication to help him. You know like a low histimine diet. She said that without a biopsy she could not tell for sure it was U.P. she made it sound like a simple small thing. By the time she got the cookie cuter tool out it was too late. I felt I really failed my son today. Have any of you guys had a biopsy done? Was it really necessary? Have there seen any side effects from the local anesthetic?
Thank you for reading my story and answering if you can.
Bella had a biopsy when she was one month old and did fine. He did two little spots on her back and put one stitch in each and was done. I think it was worst for me then her. She cried but I think it was more from not wanting to be held down then the pain because as soon as they laid her on the table she was fine. He was pretty certain she had masto he just wanted to be 100% sure. I'm sorry you had such a bad day. Hang in there!
Oh I am so sorry that you had to go through such a stressful time like that. Believe me I have been there done that many times! We have had to fire a many doctor for different reasons but most of all for no bedside manner and not seeming to know or want to know anything about mastocytosis! We are blessed to have come across many good doctors as well that either know or are willing to do all that they can to find out about mastocytosis as well as have a wonderful bedside manner!
Candice has never had a biopsy done. He docs have been satisfied with just looking and seeing her spots to tell that she does indeed have mastocytosis. After nearly 3 years of it now it's certain that she does indeed have it!
I wish you all the luck and support in future meetings with this doctor for you child!!!

Riley has had a bone marrow biopsy and a skin biopsy. He got the skin biospy done when he was three days old and the bone marrow, goodness was A LOT worse on me then him, but he got it done when he was about 8 months old. you would've never thought anything would have been done to him after words. but unfortunatly i was in a different hospital when he had his skin biopsy. After I gave birth, they immediantly transferred him to another hospital and then they transferred him again, to childrens hospital, in Birmingham, AL so I wans't there durring his skin biospy. But he's done wonderful with both!
