From a letter to me after I joined:

I want to tell you a little bit more about EDF's action goals and the vision I know we can achieve together.

I believe we are on the verge of historic environmental breakthroughs. Working together—and with our allies—we can save our planet for ourselves and our children and grandchildren.

For the last 24 years, I've led this amazing organization that has pioneered harnessing market forces to bring about transformational environmental change.

This unique fusion of environmental stewardship and sound economics is a cornerstone of everything we do here at EDF. We start with rigorous science and use economic incentives to propel change.

Our signature approach has laid the foundation for what I predict will be a revolutionary moment in our evolution to a greener, more sustainable economy.

You are a vital key to our success. As a member of our Action Network, your actions and influence—amplified by other EDF members—can sway policy makers and business leaders to chart new territory.

In the coming months, here are some of the ways your voice can help lead the way:

#1 - Fight Climate Change

Passing a national cap on global warming pollution is our #1 priority.

We support a cap-and-trade approach that sets an economy-wide cap on pollution, then encourages entrepreneurs to find the most effective ways to reduce emissions. Learn more.

#2 - Cutting Traffic and Pollution

Traffic is getting worse and so is pollution.

But innovative new tools exist that will make commuting more efficient. Congestion pricing is at the forefront of these options. Learn more.

#3 - Help Fish and Fishermen

We are working to improve fishing practices both to economically benefit fishermen and have fish populations rebound.

Our Oceans team is expanding these successful programs, while also creating higher market demand for eco-friendly seafood from coast to coast. Learn more.

#4 - Protect Wildlife and Ecosystems

We work with landowners, businesses, indigenous groups, and others to restore ecosystems and protect biodiversity.

We are pioneering programs that provide land managers with financial incentives to restore habitats for endangered species. Learn more.

Together, you and I can turn the gloom and doom environmental movement on its head. Nothing is impossible, if we use innovation, creativity and harness market forces to protect our planet and expand economic opportunities for all.
