I read the book "The Highly Sensitive Child" by Elaine Aron. My child fits so many of these traits: physically sensitive and extremely cautious, easily overstimulated by noise/smells etc., gets intimidated by peers but perhaps not adults. On the other hand, she is caring, well behaved for the most part, and quirky and creative, and has a huge vocabulary (but not on command!)...I also read that this 'type' of child is in the 20% of the population: no wonder I can't seem to find any such children/parents of those children in my group of friends...so I'm looking on here to create discussion, give each other tips of what has worked in the past for each other to help realize and bring forth the greatness that this type of child can truly be if parented according to his/her needs.
