Hi Moms,
Just wanted to bring up a topic and see everyones opinion. Not wanting to start a fight here just curious.
Did you decide to get the H1N1 vaccine for your children or yourself?
My Mother found a wonderful article in Time Magazine that sent me to the telephone immediately contacting our pediatrician which in turn involved our cardiologist prior to my son who is 5 with TOF / Q22 and myself both getting the vaccine. We got the nasal mist form which was a no no (see below) but his cardio. cleared him and that is why I did it.
The article stated that heart disease and immune compromised patients (as we all know with general immun.) should not get the mist form but rather the shot form.
What are you Moms doing this flu season with your special needs children and being from all over the US do different states feel differently about the H1N1? Love to hear everyones thougths and opinions.
I work at a school, and chose not to get them for myself. My DD was not cleared by her cardiologist, and my son was not cleared by his Pedi (HH but preemie & a bunch of other stuff). My son had it over the summer anyway. And I'm around it all day every day at work. So why bother? I've already been exposed, as have my kids, and they were unable to get the vaccine anyway.
I, of course, let all our doctors know
Kimber got hers this morning. I talked it over with my Ped and Cardio Dr and they both thought it was a good idea. She had such a problem with fliud after her surgery I just didn't want to risk it. I didn't get one for myself, but I don't even think I would be able to find one at this point!
We all got ours. Aili (HLHS) got the shot. Myself and my two older kids got the mist. There was no point in not getting it, better to stay safe.
