It's okay to be scared. I was too and still am nervous every time we go to see the Cardiologist. My DD is now 3 1/2 she had OHS at 2 weeks old to correct TGA. The surgery was about 6 hrs long. I was unable to puck her up until like 4 days post op, and she was home at 10 days post op. Once home we had a home nurse three days a week, saw the pediatrician every week, and the cardiologist every other week for the fist few months. DD's surgery was at University of Michigan.

It's ok to be nervous.

My ds had open heart surgery at 2weeks 3 days old where he had a BT shunt placed. He had been in the hospital for birth to 2 weeks at the hospital I delivered at and then transfered to Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston at 2 weeks old.He got out at 5 weeks 5 days old and was back 14 hours later for another 4 days.

He had his second open heart surgery at 5.5 months old. He was in for 10 days.

My daughter had a complete AV canal heart defect.  She had her first surgery at 3 months old. It was so stressful and scary!  Totally normal!  She did great.  Surgery was about 4 hours long.  She was in the hospital for 6 days.  Her surgery was at Childrens in St Louis.  She required oxygen for 3 months after surgery. the cardiologist said that was common for babies after they had surgery.  She also has down syndrome.  She needed oxygen because her oxgyen sat. level would drop when she slept and ate.

My daughter had open heart surgery at 6 DAYS old and 6lbs to correct a coarctation of aorta, hole in heart and she has a bicuspid valve. She was in surgery 7 hours and post op she was in cardiac icu for a week. She had her surgery at Mayo Clinic. She is a miracle little girl. I understand you being scared, but if it needs to be done for your son to be better and grow and be strong then it is worth it.

My son had open heart surgery at 5 days. He has PDA, asd, vsd, tga and pulmenary stenosis
He also had surgery at 15 days to get a pacemaker.
We were in the hospital a month but mostly due to his complications and needing to get the pacemaker.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
