I haven't been on here much lately. Have posted at all on this room, I don't think. But I am a mother of an 8 yr. old Adhd child. He was put on IEP in kindergarten. He was started on medication. Currently he is taking Adderall XR 30mg. a day, a 5 mg Adderall in the afternoon, and then takes clonidin at night to help him sleep.
The adderall has been working for some time. But this year, we have a new teacher in I mean this is her first year teaching. And she is having trouble getting JT to be quiet and sometimes he acts out..mouthy. I have taken things away at home. His school work is not suffering, but I am getting notes ever week about his behavior. Our dr. had recommended before, that he get counseling I understand for behavior modification. I have since contacted a place here in town, that usually has someone go into the schools but due to funding no one is available. I have emailed the school principle and his teacher last night, to see if the school counselor they have..can give him some sessions on behavior.
I don't know what else to do. His dr. says as long as his school work is not suffering, he won't change the medication. I don't know if it is just the teacher or my son. We have had it good the last couple of years, with some experienced teachers, who knew how to handle him.
I'm confused.
Hi! Can you go to the school and meet with the guidance counselor? That way, you can talk to them face to face. Explain your child to them and his issues. Ask them if they can move him to a class with a more experienced teacher.
Maybe you can also make up a chart at home. If he has a good day at school he gets a cool sticker on the chart. At the end of the week, if he has more stickers on his chart than he had "bad days", he gets a treat. Like popcorn and a drink while watching tv on Friday or Saturday night. Or a night of ice cream. Or 50 cents, a dollar, whatever you want. SOme kind of reward. That way, he's learning goals and he visually sees a result each day with a sticker.
