My son Jared has ADHD and Asbergers syndrome,(in the Autism family) and he was very destructive at that age  (he is now 11)!!! but for them its like all your thoughts, feelings and any sounds are balls bouncing around in your head all at one time,I think it must drive them crazy!! think how it is if you have the TV on and the radio and kids running around screaming and playing, then talk to someone on the phone.... you'd hang up! that's what his Dr said its like for them and they act out in frustration. Jared wants his meds, every morning if I don't wake him up to take them he wants to know why? They need us to be as strong as we can be.we are all they have....I hope this helps you to gain courage to see her through this with all the love you can give her, she'll need it!! Oh and Jared use to get knives so he could cut himself open to see what he looked like inside...step on the cats tail because he wanted to see if that hurt, they don't understand or even have the concept of cause and effect,no fear... he stomped rather than walked or walked on his toe's ...

So yes,Have her checked out, don't let a Dr tell you its nothing...take her to your school and tell them you would like an Evaluation done (an IEP)

Hello and welcome to the group. I know what you are going through is very overwhelming. My son has ADHD,OCD and a mood disorder that is most likely Bipolar.

Before meds and therapy, much of what you discribed is what my son has done. He still has his moments, but they are much better moments then back then.

It sounds like your daughter may also have OCD and possibly a mood disorder. Mood disorder catagorizes many types of mental disorders, including Bipolar.

I would suggest that you see about getting her in to see a psychiatrist. They are the only mental health professionals that can prescribe meds for mental disorders. You may have to go through channels to see one, tho. It all depends on what type of insurance that you have.

Be as discriptive to the DR. as possible. They are going to ask ALOT of questions. About what symptoms she is displaying, her birth history, your pregnancy history, her overall health history and family history. It will be the longest appt. that you will have on that first visit. But, in the long run, it will be worth it.

From my experiece with special needs kids it almost sounds like she may be somewhere in the autistic family. Have you ever checked into the symptoms of something like aspergers or any other type of autism? How is her speech? There are some very informative sites out there that can give you insight into what you are dealing with, whether it be ADHD, bipolar or some form of autism.

There are so many of them. Just google or yahoo search the topics: ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, or Bipolar. I hope you find what you need.
