I was just wondering what you thought of the book Smart but Scattered by Peg Dawson if you have read it?  If you haven't read it, it is about helping to improve your childs Executive Skills.  I am still trying to figure out exactly what Executive Skills are?  So if anyone can explain it to me that would be great.  Thanks in advance.

I haven't read the book. Let me see what I can remember from what I have read. Executive skills are mentioned a lot. From what I understand, it involves the frontal cortex in the brain. The skills involve the ability to control impulsive reactions, ie, the ability to think before you act. Also, the ability to understand the ramifications of your behaviors. It also involves your ability to organize information in order to make a good decision. Also, the ability to delay gratification, is reflected in executive skills. It may also involve the ability to organize short term working memory in the brain as you are solving a problem.

Basically, good executive skills are what keep many children out of trouble, and what many children with ADHD tend to lack.
