Calling the doctor

I am calling the doctor today to talk to him about my anxiety. It has been nearly 4 yrs. since I talked to him about it last, and it just seems so out of control now that I think I need help. I can't do this on my own any longer although I certaily did try. I guess I have been scared, because once I go to the doctor it definitely means I have a problem.

Please don't feel that way! You are not scarred. And admitting you need help is great! Maybe you will be able to get some relief and be ok again? Maybe you only need a small dose of a med? Think of this as a positive measure you're taking, not a negative one!

thanks for your encouraging words. The main reason I am deciding to do this is because of my kids, I know that my patience is shorter when I feel this way and I just want to feel more like myself.

Yeah, patience does seem slim when you have anxiety. Especially with kids. Seems like alot of sahm's have this problem.

I have since seen the doctor and am now on antidepressants. My doctor reassured me that I am not alone in the way that I feel. I am so glad that I took the step because I want to feel more"normal" for my family. Also I had written about a catscan before, I have some thickening in my nasal passage(I have chronic sinus issues) so i am being referred to a surgeon. Also I found out I have tendonitis(yay) and fluid pocket on the joint(yes!!!) thanks for all the support

Oh I guess I was alittle late with my post to your other thread.  Sorry!  Looks like you've done exactly what you needed to, to get yourself back on track and feeling good again.

I felt the same way in thinking I could handle my stress and depression all on my own!  I was strong and I did not need medication.

Well, I finally got past that, and realized I couldn't do it on my own, and it was okay!  That's what they make these meds for. Hello!!!

Stay strong and just know that you are certainly not alone.

Hey I've recently been through the same thing. Finally had that chat with my midwife after worrying about it for two years. I'm doing talk therapy now, and it has been helpful. Certainly not a cure all, but slowly giving me some tools to slow my life down and get a grip. I also have tmj, and back and hip pain - all joint and muscle pain stuff. I got frustrated when doctors kept tellling me it was stress.... Why cant I cope? My therapist has talked about anxiety being fear. And that I am physically bracing myself so I'll be ready when the things I fear happen. Just knowing that has helped. And she's having me read a book about meditation called Peace in Every Step. It's how to apply meditation to our busy lives in the little moments. It's really helping. And so far I'm ok without meds! Feeling hopeful.

Try to not veiw it as having a "problem".  We live in a world that can be very hard to live in especially when you add a chemical imbalance into the mix.  It is not a matter of weakness or strength, or normal vs. not, it is just what it is-a chemical imbalance.  One thing I would suggest is try to find a doc. who will do blood work and such to really diagnose you properly.  There are way too many fix it quick docs or psychiatrists that just seem to eperiment with meds.  Here try this and if this doesn't work try that.  I don't see that as a good idea.  It was done with me and I got lucky-or my symptoms were just that easy to diagnose, but I have had friends put on meds that they never needed to be on.

I know how you feel about the doctor.  Everytime I tell them about something that is going on with me, the first thing they tell me is it's just stress.  I think that once they diagnose you with anxiety, they tend to put all your issues in that category and it can get so frustrating!  The thing I really hate is when they tell me, you have to relieve the stress.  Ya, ok, I have 6 kids and work from home plus take care of the house and working on my marriage....HELLO, relieve stress?  You got to be kidding right?  LOL.

I felt the same way before I finally went to see my doctor about it. But it turned out to be the best thing I ever did, as I'm sure you've found as well. You took the hardest step and for that you should be proud.

Never be afraid to talk to your doctor about a problem. I learned the only way things can ever get better for you when you suffer from either anxiety or depression is to admit you have a problem that you can no longer manage by yourself. You are taking the right and best step you can for you and your family. You should feel wonderful knowing that after you see your doctor and seek treatment from them it can and will be the first day of a better, happier and healthier life. Good luck and take care.
