ds (5) just counted to 10 without help or instigation for me!  Even his three words sentences are really improving!

take that preschool and your cognitive delays theory

(we have a difference of opinion when it comes to why we think he is not talking.  I am not getting anywhere with them)

YAY!  Age 5 is when my son started to really FINALLY show significant progress.  Before that it was such small progress, you couldn't even notice.  He was pretty intelligible by age 8 when at 6 (and even 7)his teachers could still not understand him.  He's 11 and now only working on one sound.  He was diagnosed with a learning disability finally, but that's been a blessing really.  He's awesome in math and science.  He only struggles in reading.  So keep going with them.  It's so tough to fight 'professionals'. Go with what your mom instincts tell you.  He will really start flying now!

I just don't understand... I have two private places, children's hospital and the hearing speach and deaf center that both say he has apraxia and slight selective mutism, but the school seems to either not want to hear it or agree. Next year in kindergarten we will see what they say because there will be different people. In the mean time I will continue working with the private therapist. Which the school told me to not even bother with because they won't do anything different then what he getting in school. Ugh. I am glad I finally didn't listen. They do a lot more and seem to REALLY understand his needs.

We were lucky that int he beginning they did recognize it but we ran into people over the years who turned their noses up like they didn't 'believe' in it.  I hope it turns around for you next year.
