I am thinking about getting my 2yr old DS a leapfrog for christmas. He can count to 10 and identify all those numbers, and he knows his ABCs and can identify about 90% of the letters. We are working on letter sounds whenever he shows the interest too.
I am hoping to find a "computer" toy that he can grow with - something that will interest him now but will still be useful a few years from now with different programs or games. If there is one that does early letter sounds/ reading/ numbers/ early math/ etc that would be great.
Which Leap Frog computer/toy do you all LOVE? Is there something else out there (not leapfrog) that you all like better?
THANKS!!
My son (4) and daughter (2) both love the ClickStart computer. It's a keyboard and console that hook up to a tv. There's a variety of cartridges using familiar characters (backyardigans, dora, thomas, etc.) that cover different skills. I don't think it will get beyond preschool/kindergarten level skills (the hardest seems to be reading short words and addition/subtraction) but it also teaches keyboard and mouse skills without having to worry about them damaging the family computer.

My son loves his leapster and he also loves his computer games, mainly Reader Rabbit and Jumpstart. With the Jumpstart computer games I think it is well worth getting the 'deluxe' versions because they are much better.
Both my daughters have a Leapfrog...one pre-k and the other older. My oldest is 10 but still loves to play with these in the car and it's so good for reading! We have about 20 books w/ cartridges for each...another homeschool mommy has offered to buy them when my girls are finished with them. I made a little (big) bag to carry them all together; it's great for long trips...Grannies and Grandpa live 7+ hours away!
We've used all the different leap pads, the leapster and the didj. My kids have never gotten really into the leap pads They don't work the best and they get bored with them. They love the leapster and didj though. Even my 2 yr old daughter loves to play with her brother's leapster. I got her one for Christmas. The pre-k games seems easy enough for her. You may need to help your child at first but they will pick it up pretty fast. My boys got their leapsters at 3 and took to it right away. They are now 7 and 5 and still love it. My seven year old has a didj now which is the same idea but the games are harder for older kids.
my daughter enjoys the v-smile system, and has used it for years, she has the system that plugs into the tv and she has whats called the v smile pocket, its a system that u can take with u and it has a charger if u dont have the batteries.
it something u could check into.
we got it at radio shack if ur interested.

i would also advise the v-tech v-smile as well! my oldest 3 had it when they were about 2yrs old and loved it. im buying another one for my youngest 2. i got rid of the first one because i didnt think i would need it anymore.
as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD
I would recommend the leapster LMax because you can hook it into the TV. We used the vsmile for my children but everntually switched over to leapster. The leapster had more games for my older son to play with. I like more of the titles that leapster had. I would look at the various game titles and see which ones you like better. The only difference I really found between the two was the various titles each one had. Both are a great buy and my sons love them.
we have the leapster and the v-smile. leapster is so much better!

My son just turned two Oct 1st. He got a Tag Jr for his birthday and loves it. So, for Christmas I got him the ClickStart computer. He loves our cpu so hopefully this will keep him from messing up ours! Also leapfrog has great sales going on esp. on bundles- the operating system plus games. If you sign up for their emails they will give you a ton of good deals like free shipping and 20-30% off!
