Our daughters are one and almost three.  We have agreed tohomeschool for middle & high school.  But, I have been granted the fortunate gift to be a stay-at-home mom now.  So, I am thinking about starting with my almost three year old after the holidays.  However, I'm not sure exactly how or where to begin.  Nor am I sure what the laws are in Wisconsin.  Any Wisconsin homeschoolers out there that can give me any info, I would really appreciate it.

Happy Holidays!!!!

well, my girls are 1 and 2 1/2 so i'm in the same boat as you are.  we have "kind of" started "home learning" as we call it.

from what i have read and understood, in WI you have to write a letter confirming that you are going to hs, a letter of intent.

from there you kind of have free reign with what you do and do not do.  all you have to confirm ia the number of hours schooled.  it works out to just over 2 hours per day, 365 days a year.  Not really bad if you ask me.

we plan on homeschooling as much as possible, depending on if i have to return to work or not will make a big difference.

my oldest has some health issues that may take her out of school often, so even if we choose to send her to a school, she would miss much of it, further confirming our desire to homeschool.

now... all that being said, remember that you should check for yourself, making sure that nothing has changed, and that i'm right (i'm sure i am... but ya know...) i'd hate for something to have changed since i haven't checked on it in over a year... and it to be my fault that something was wrong.

welcome!  there are a few WI moms that i've run into here, and WI is a pretty easy state when it comes to hsing!

you dont have to do anything formal until your kids r in first grade...all that is required at that point is a form to be filled out agreeing to school for 875 hours per calendar year with a progressive curriculum...you get the form from the department of public instruction...if you just google dpi it is pretty simple to find...

family in the van being a mom requires such patience & self-control...my 1st response is to screech, but i can't teach my children patience & self-control if i'm showing the opposite...God builds in punishments...

The only thing you need to keep track of is attendance. I know that sounds dumb. They will probably never check but if Anyone in authority ever asks you have to have a copy attendance. I have a calendar I just write their intials on every day we do anything school related. Thats all you need. If it is ever asked for though it needs to be there. It is just dumb because I could fill the whole thing out and never teach them anything. I wouldnt I am just saying that attendance doesnt prove anything. But thats all that is required.

Homeschool Your Preschooler on $1 a Day

gives 100 free or nearly free ideas for homeschooling preschoolers.

What a great resource!  It's a curriculum or a supplement to curriculum.

Worked good for me.
