Just moved...help with gardening.

We just bought a new house that has a medium sized backyard. I have been planning a garden since we bought our last house with NO yard. What should I start with? I'm afraid my eyes will outdo my actual ability to garden. I've never flown solo, I've always helped my parents with theirs. How should I start?? I want to do some apple and peach trees, blueberries, corn, green beans, broc, strawberries and tomatoes. Help... 

Btw: We are Zone 7 in Southern Indiana

Also we would really really like some chickens, about 5 or 6. We live in a subdivision outside of the city limits with a fenced in yard. We wouldn't have a rooster so I suspect they will be pretty quiet. We don't have any limitations or restrictions about keeping the animals, only reservations about the caretaking of them.
