Questions about lapbooks

I am thinking of trying this with my boys who are 6, 3 and 1; but I need to know if I make the lapbook ahead of time or make the creation of it become part of the lesson?  Another question is, how/where do you store these, do you recycle them when completed with lesson or hang onto them indefinitely? Thanks.

People do them differently. I have my kids help to make them. I make sure to have games in them too so the kids are able to go back to the lapbook later and play so we hang on to them. :) During quiet time the kids will often pull out their lapbooks and play quietly with them.

I have only done one so I'm no expert but I would suggest that they kids help - that's part of the fun.  The lapbook I did had a lot of cutting so if your kids are good at that you may want to do that ahead of time.
