Hi ladies :)

I am looking around for a curriculum for my son. He is in public pre-K right now, but I will be pulling him out when we move to Tennessee in January. I'm looking for a christian based program, that is low cost. I was looking at the k12 and thought it might be good, but I don't like how its still up to the government to choose what subjects that he will be learning. I'm afraid If I do all the planning myself I won't do it right. I do much better if I have a plan, or some type of schedule. There seems to be so much out there, that I don't even know where to start. Hope some one can help!

so my questions;

1. What christian curriculum do you use?

2. How much ?

3. Do you like it?

I was looking into Alpha Omega Horizons Preschool curriculum for my son that is in preschool. The curriculum set is $116.95 or $362.95 if you want the curriculum set and multimedia set. I'm not sure how the price compares to others, but I've heard great things about it.

I use horizon's  for  preschool, we use lifepacs for k-2, and SOS switched on schoolhouse for 3-12th.  They are all made by Alpha Omega Publications.  The cost varies widely depending on what all you get in the preschool program.  I have the complete set with videos and computer games.  I bought it a few years ago and I think it was around 400.

I love it.  I love everything about it,  One of the best features is that since they make all the curriculum I use it all goes together very well and it all can be passed down to younger kids in the future.  Every subject has the Bible scriptures and principals throughout it.

Thanks SO much for this review on the various Alpha Omega curriculum's RedJ! I've also heard great things about Lifepac and SOS. The thing that got me was that neither of them started with PreK. That's great to hear that they all work together very well. I've always been worried about switching and having a hard transition. This is great to know! Thanks so much! :-)

I've been looking into ATI recently. They are fairly reasonably priced and Christ centered... just not sure yet. I have found that I'm not a big fan of the K-12... basically public school at home, so wld require a ton of supplementation and no morals or virtue or Bible taught either.

I use Heart of Dakota and will continue longterm. I love it! http://www.heartofdakota.com.

We used Ann Ward's "Learning at Home" which you probably can find used for cheap. It uses library books which are a bit out of date. However, you could easily substitute others of the same subject. I loved that curriculum!

For the next 2 years (K, and 1st) we used Sonlight. I did like most of the books, but I really prefer HOD now.

We LOVE heart of Dakota for homeschooling.  Buy on ebay usually much cheaper may have to look a short time but I do find it offen on ebay.  Last week one went for $18 plus $4 shipping usually a little more like $28.  You would love the singing Bible cd's that go with it.   This program is FUN educational and very hands on.

delmeg10, If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask.

I have tons of reasons for loving alpha omega but, one of the main reasons I picked it was I wanted an accredited program.

We are also foster parents.  Most foster kids can not do home school in Indiana however, I have county workers, therapist and teachers in my home every week.  I wanted to be able to show them that my kids are getting a great quality education but, I also wanted lots of flexibility.  I also have seven kids and all have special needs, I don't have time to put together my own material and know for sure that it would be the quality I wanted my kids to have.  I also needed to be able to stop and work on things with the kids as needed until they really got the information.  Some of our children are adopted thru foster care and they had significant holes in their educations due to moving from school to school so many times .   By the way not only have all the workers coming into my home asked questions about the school work but they all have said that it is better than that in the public schools.

Lifepac is almost the exact same material as SOS.  The only difference is SOS is computer based and lifepac is book based.  They both have everything separated into units.  A unit is a months worth of work in a particular subject. For the 5 core subjects they all have 10 units.  So we know we have to get thru a unit a month per subject. I love this because regardless of what grade level the child is at they all are working on the same unit number at the same time.  I think it simplifies everything.

We have also bought it on ebay for a lot less.
