We were told about a homeschool group for Ft Hood when we got here but we have only one car so I haven't been able to go to meet ups. It would be nice to know other moms doing this; I've just started

We're just north of Dallas. We didn't have a car for a long time so I started hosting 1 playgroup a month at our house. Maybe you could do something like to get to know some people, then carpool once in a while.

I am in the Arlington area. I feel like I am the only one who homeschool in my neighbborhood. I am not sure if it is ok to let the kids to play outside durnig the public and privite school hours.

I feel a little weird taking DD out whenever people tend to ask "what no school today?" but legally you can take your kids out whenever you want. Now as far as curfews go, they could get in trouble if they go out without you during curfew hours. I'm not sure how that works.

Does Denton have any homeschool co-op/activities that you recommend? We're really close to 380 in Little Elm.

We are in the Allen/Plano area. This will be our first year homeschooling our oldest son, he will be starting the first grade. I am looking for a fun homeschooling support group that has field trip opportunities and some co-op classes for kids around my son's age.

I'm in North Richland Hills and I am just dying to meet people who homeschool near me:). I don't really care about co-op classes yet, just playdates with kids my kids' ages! I have a five year old girl and a three year old girl, we also have a third little girly due in late September.

I live in a small community outside of Alexandria and we chose to not do homebound schooling. We chose private non-approved school. I wanted to be able to teach on my ds' level, and so far, we are progressing quickly through 2nd grade and will start 3rd grade information after the new year.

Where are you located?

tlorden
by New Member on Aug. 31, 2010 at 12:22 PM
I am in Minden & we chose the private school option as well. My boys are kindergarden & 1st grade. I work full time so I homeschool in the evenings and on weekends. I want to be able to school on my own without someone telling me "your child should be doing this or that right now" when I know he is not ready. Both my boys are doing really well in my opinion. They read good. They read right through words like boat, something, little, said and yellow without missing a beat. They know thier addition and subtraction. I will teach presidents and all of that but I am not going to be make them memorize stuff like that & have them take a test. I always hated that about school. You had to memorize all these things & you only remembered it about a week. I can't near about name all of them myself, but if I need to know it, I know how to look it up. I am focusing more on the stuff they will be using every day. We do reading, spelling, writing & math every day. We do history and science 2 times a week. I want my kids to enjoy school and not be stressed out about memorizing alot of stuff they really don't need to. The private school choice works better for us.

We are a homeschool family of three elementary school aged kids (almost 10,8,6) and we live in a small town called Kingsville in the South East area of Texas. We are close to Corpus Christi, Alice, Bishop and Robstown.

We just moved to Corpus Christi! We haven't even been here a whole month yet. I have only met one other homeschooler so far and that was off of a Corpus Christi cafemom mom group not a homeschool group. My son is going to be 5 next month.

Kiri it is great to meet you. Anything you ever need you let us know. My kids have been doing great with homeschooling and we just met a new family yesterday that homeschools. If you would like we can even work on forming a homeschool group in the area that meets and gets together to discuss homeschooling issues and have park days and even field trips.

We have a couple that match up though.

There is a group for homeschoolers in the Victoria area on Yahoo. Try contacting them.... I know they have members from quite a distance away & have been in "operation" for quite a while. At the very least, they should be able to tell you where to look.

by Kiri on May. 23, 2009 at 8:32 PM

I don't know if anyone would be intereastead in this but I just made a yahoo group for those of us who are homeschooling in the Corpus and surrounding areas so we can have get togethers and things like that. Here is the link http://groups.yahoo.com/group/homeschoolingincc/

Kiri

We would love to find a family that homeschools in our area since we are new to this area and do not know many people let alone any who homeschool.
