Hi, I am new to homeschooling and am doing all the research I can to make sure I'm as informed as I can be. I have looked non stop at Christian homeschooling. I saw the switched on schoolhouse which seems pretty easy since it includes EVERYTHING and it focuses on the Bible and Christian teachings as well which is what I want. The con to it is it's price of course.
My question for all you experienced homeschoolers out there ;) is....is there a curriculum that is free or very close to free since I am a single mom, that is kind of like the sos? I just don't want to miss anything that my 11 yr old should be doing in 6th grade, and I'm finding sites for individual subjects, but how do I know if I'm missing one of them. I'm pretty much hoping for a cut and dry kind of thing like 6th grade; these subjects, here's the work :D
Does that exist w/o paying $400 for it and if so HELP PLEASE!!!
I'm sure down the road I'll see all this stressing was for nothing but right now it's all a bunch of gibberish :)
Thanks for any and all help and God Bless!
i love the SOS. But we are cutting back this year too. We homeschool 4 of our 5. Unit Studies are really cheap. and you choose the subject that you want to teach (or what they want to learn). Like we are doing American Tall Tales, Astronomy, and the US (regions, capitals, major waters and landmarks) at thiis time. I have found some as cheap as $4 a study and some are only $20 a study. You buy as you go!!!! Mathmammoth is cheap also. Go to their website and get their free samples sent to you. For English I am going to a local Christian Homeschooling store. I found a 5th grade English workbook for $15. We teach the Bible all the time so we are not buying a bible curriculum.

Thank you! Do you teach all the subjects daily or weekly? And how do you know when they've "graduated" on to the next grade? I've rented about 15 books from the library this last week to try to figure out how to do it all right. The last thing I want to do is mess her all us so she's behind a normal 6th grader, though I hear they learn much more being homeschooled. :) Also about how many hours daily do you teach? I know after reading some kids aren't learning anywhere close to the amount of hours they are in a classroom and away from home.
we teach reading daily. math and english are on mon, thurs, friday and then science and ss are on tues, and thursday. We also do PE which an hr a day on the Kinect or Wii. We have to break it up. My oldest son has therapy twice a week (tuesday and Weds) so we take the easier subjects with less to do on those days. Friday is also a day of make up. As for as when do we move on. we teach jan-dec. So jan is a new school yr for us. I dont stress over anything. It isnt worth it.
