I am a single parent and I homeschool. But I am also a writer that works from home, so it is easier for me to work around the homeschooling schedule, and vice versa. I have seen others say they have homeschooled and worked outside the home at the same time, so I imagine it is feasible. I think it's just a matter of determination and motivation, and also having supportive people around you. If your babysitter/childcare is supportive and willng to help you by helping your child with worksheets/projects while you're at work, that will certainly help.
I would also check and make sure you can legally do it in terms of custody. I know some kinds of custody you have to have your ex on board in order to make a major change like this.
Not here. In our state it is illegal for anyone other than a legal guardian to homeschool. You couldn't just have granny do the school work while you're at work. You have to account for a certain amount of days a year; a certain amount of hours a day.
Also, both biological parents have to agree to it and sign off on it.
I am a home educating, Vaccinating, Non spanking, Nightmare Cuddling, Dessert Giving, Homework Helping, Bedtime Kissing, Book Reading, Academic pushing Mother. I believe in the benefit of organized after school activities and nosey, involved parents. I believe in spoiling my children. I believe that I have seen the village and I do not want it raising my child. I believe that my place, as a woman, is in the home caring for my husband and children. My husband is head of my home. I don't see why not. The only thing is when you go back to work you'd have to think of what the kids would do, where they would go, etc. But (especially depending on their ages) they can do a lot of work independantly. Also, it doesn't have to be expensive to homeschool. I only spend about $500/year to home educate 2 kids. Right now both my DH and I are unemployed so I don't think I've spent even 1/3 of my usual $500. To do coops I teach there and charge for my classes which covers the enterance fees and such.
Anything is possible w/ determination and creativity. There is no law stating you have to do school work between 8am and 3pm, nor is there a law saying you have to do it Monday - Friday (though some states have a certain number of days/hours that have to be taught each year).
I am a single mother. I do get a small VA disability check, and I do odd jobs (basically if you can do it with kids in tow, I do it). My kids are 8, 6, and 3. I do expect to get more formal work when they are older, easing from PT to FT. I spend $150 a year including ink and paper which are my biggest expense.
My aunt was a single mom homeschooler with a full time job. She worked out with a woman who had a home day care to watch her daughter during work (this woman had been watching her before school age, and after school when she was PS). My cousin did some stuff on her own during the day, but my aunt did the formal instruction in the evenings.

My kids are around this age and a little older, their lessons only take about an hour for all the core classes combined! You shouldn't have any trouble. :) Hope that helps, but if you haven't done so, make sure your state doesn't have a set number of hours they require. That could really complicate your life.

I was homeschooled by a single mom. :) She gave us assignments and left us with my grandma and we did what we could alone. In the evenings she would check out school work and go over anything we had trouble with. In our state only our mom could homeschool us so that's why my grandma didn't do anything. She just made sure that we actually DID the work but she didn't teach us anything. My mom did that. ;)
I'm a single mom who homeschools. I sub for the local school district. My parents always helped out when I was working. Do you have relatives that could help you out?
