Where to start?

Okay so we have decided that we are ready to homeschool our only problem is what to do first. We are going to do K12 and I saw on their site you have to fill out an application, and also I have to write a letter to the superintendant to notify him of our intention to homeschool. So do I write the letter first or apply first and wait to hear from K12? Also does this have to be an actual letter or can it be an email? Thanks!

Are you using K12 independently or as part of your state's virtual public school?

I can't see why you would need to file intent to homeschool if using it for free through your state - as you aren't technically homeschooling; you are using a virtual public school. If you are purchasing the K12 curriculum privately, but aren't using the public school to do so, you would indeed be homeschooling and would need to follow necessary protocol.

Other than that, it varies by state. You really need to look up your state laws. it works differently in every state.

We were going to use the virtual public school, I read the Ohio laws for homeschooling I guess I didn't realize it wasn't technically considered homeschool that way. Anyway I know I have to write a letter to the district superintendant about pulling him out of school I just didn't know if I should apply to K12 first or write the letter.

What I'm saying is that once enrolled in a public virtual school, I think the school district is informed of your "transfer" to public virtual. You aren't homeschooling so you needn't bide by state homeschool law - that I'm aware of (call and ask).

Oh ok, thank you. I guess I didn't think of it as a transfer, I will definately call them and ask. That kind of makes me feel not as stressed out about it.
