Any curriculums that are inexpensive (like HOD) but have a lesson plan guide?

I have looked into Heart of Dakota and like what they offer.  There are few things I'm not sure about them so I"m still looking around.

-I'm looking for a curriculum that is inexpensive like Heart of Dakota

-Has a lesson by day plan that requires little to no prep time (like HOD)

- Is very sound in their subjects and keeps up with what ps is teaching (if not ahead)

I have looked around at more curriculums than I can remember.  Each one has a good point.  The reason I'd like to look at another option than HOD is that they seem very religious based.  Scriptiures are good and I'm christian but would like to add my own religious study into our schooling.  I many just have to not use some books of theirs.  I just like how organized they are.  My biggest worry about homeschooling is not getting everything covered and it gives me confidence using a program.  I've looked at abeka too.

I only know Catholic programs by name.

If you are looking for protestant, what about My Father's World? I'm not sure - I've heard good things about it.

Oh! Memoria Press' grade level packages. I can't believe I forgot about that! They are Christian and they do have lesson plans.

I don't know much about HOD but you could look at 2 free programs http://www.amblesideonline.com/ and http://www.oldfashionededucation.com/ We have been using the first for 4 years now and we are year 3 with the latter.

HOD is inexpensive at the start, but the upper levels get expensive, unless you can use the library for some books. However, I buy it used and sell it, so the cost is just a little in the end. There are yahoo groups for selling curriculum that make it easy.

If you are Christian, I'd encourage you to consider using HOD. The Bible seems somewhat light, but really it is integrated throughout all subjects as a unit study. Christ really is the at the heart of the curriculum. As Christians, what better purpose do we have than to raise up our children in Christ?

You could easily add your Bible curriculum on top of HOD.

Also, when you say you are considering HOD and aBeka, you would want to decide if you want a living books, CM approach or a textbook approach to homeschooling.  This will narrow down the search considerably.

Other lit-based programs are MFW and Sonlight, as well as the free ones another poster recommended above. You will find most, if not all, lit-based curricula to be heavy on history.  Both MFW and Sonlight have a weekly schedule, with notes for each day.

Abeka, BJU, R&S--all textbook based Christian curriculum. I do know that each aBeka TM tells you what to teach. I've used R&S math--the TM is scripted and tells you exactly what to teach. Both are a bit school-at-home in that they are not conversational and are more lecture based and even class-based.
