my daughter was born 3 months early. She weighed 1 pound 15 ounces and dropped to 1lb 4oz. She is now almost 3 and only weighinf in at 20 pounds. The NICU follow-up clinic has put her on pedisure and now boost. She takes prevacid, two inhalers, and singular. The NICU clinic told my mom (who has custody now) that they have no idea what to do for her now. That they have tried everything and all they can suggest is take her back to a new GI doctor to see what they sugggest. Even though she isnt gaining weight she is growing in height. She seems to me that she is dehydrated. What i mean is they want her to drink nothing but the boost and breeze (boost supplement), she calls for water all the time. My mom gives her water and my daughter guzzles is like nothing else. Then she gets sick and vomits becasue she drinks it to fast. I do not know what to do now. She eats enough for a grown man and is very active. Any one have any advice on what to do?

My son also has weight issues. Recently we switched him from Nutren jr which is equivalent to Pedisure to Peptamen which has more calories per can. We also have to add Doucal powder to his formula 4 times a day to add even more calories. He is 4 and only weighs 23 lbs. I don't know if this is going to work because we just recently started this new formula and doucal but maybe worth mentioning to your GI. I would also suggest seeing a nutritionist about this verses a Gi because some doctors aren't knowledgable about food intake and how many calories kids need. Hope this helps some.

yes def recommend duocal. My son is 3 nearly 4 and is 25 lbs but he also short so he is very propotionate,we give timmy lots of high calorie foods we add cheese, oils, sour cream, sauces to everything our next step may be a feeding tube, but unlike your daughter my son is not dehydrated
jennifer mom to 5 amazing kids
timmy 3 trisomy 10q
My son had a GI tube put in when he was 18 months he is now 5 almost 6 and weighs 36lbs he was also born 1lb 15oz the problemb with boost is it is very constipating which causes severe vomiting. Water is not a bad Idea. I bet your daughter was diagnosed with failure to thrive right? If she was that could also be incorrect. your daughter needs water and calories. you may need to dilute the boost. but see a gastro dr. It is A long Haul but there is help out there. Does she have any other feeding issues. I am suprised a GI tube hasnt been discussed earlier. If you need Anything Anything at all feel free to ask!
Yes, DuoCal is what we used for my autistic son who got very ill and lost alot of weight. You can put it in anything pretty much and it dissolves and is virtually tasteless. Had a prob with constipation but if you can get by that you'll be fine. Its got like 50cal's per tsp or something wild like that! Ask for it! You can even get deals on Ebay ! If that doesn't work, have they tried a "tummy tube"? Then you can feed the babe while they sleep.
