Good Morning! I have a 10 year old son that is on an IEP for Emotional Disturbance. Hew was diagnosed with ODD, Impulse Control Disorders, PTSD, ADHD Combined Type Severe, Frontal Lobe issues, and Intermittent Explosive Disorder. His IQ is a 70 which is borderline MR. He has a personal aid that follows him around school all day long as well.
He attends speech therapy 2x per week for 30 mintutes. Just last Thursday there was an incident with the speech teacher and I addressed her and the two principals with it. She decided for no reason that she would hit my child in the face and then block him from exiting the room which he is allowed to do if he is going to his "safe place" in the building. I am still in shock and it took all I had to keep my composure and not beat the crap out of this woman. My son's aid doesn't or should I say didn't go into the room for therapy per her request. I just can't stop thinkin about this..... If she is doing this to my child how about others... what are her consequences? Any advice out there?
I don't know how you did it but I would have lost it! I would file a formal complaint with the school district and consider filing battery charges against that teacher..She should be fired without a doubt! I know that teachers have union's which makes termination harder than it should be! No adult should lay a hand on anyones child! I wonder how many more children have had similar situations with this teacher that have reported or unreported. I would not let it go, and I would make sure other parent's possibly the community know what she did, so she can't get away with it. She is a school teacher she should know never to hit a child, under any circumstaces! It seems to me she is abusing her power by taking it out some sort of aggression on children. As an educated adult working with children with special needs, I am positive she understands the lasting impression this type of abuse from an authority figure can leave on a child, but she choose to continue.' I'm so sorry this has happen to your son, and to you. Excuse my language but Karma's a B*tch, she will get what's comming to her!
