I am in need of help. My daughter is almost 4. She has severe ADHD. I mean, she's also very impulsive. She was recently put on melatonin to help her sleep, because she never did. I've tried everything trust me. The doctor also said we should try 2.5 mg. of adderall...I'm wondering if any of you use this and what your thoughts are...please help.

My son takes adderall and we have had good and bad things come from it. He is more focused and can have good days. But when we have bad days they are really bad. It can cause your child to have sleeping problems, get violent, and get depressed. I have noticed he wakes up more often at night and can't fall back asleep. When he does something wrong he will start hitting himself or banging his head on his desk as school. He also is always telling me how he doesn't feel like himself and is always sad. He's had self esteem issues in the past though. We have decided to have him see a psychiatrist to help manage his behavior and medication since the doctor's recommendation was causing more bad than good. But everything I have read on adderall says that it is so different in every kid. Some children get all the benefits and none of the side effects. But others get some bad side effects. ADHD is treated different in each child and it really is a trial and error process to get what works best for your child. You will start on a very low dosage and maybe add more if needed or switch medication. There is no "right" for everyone. Each child has different needs. I would take your doctor's recommendation and note the side effects. They will come with the perscription. Make sure to contact your doctor if you are concerned about anything. Keep a notebook of behavior while they are on the medication. That will help the doctor greatly. Good luck in getting your little one help!

Our daughter will be 4 in August- She is also on melatonin at night- We tried Adderall but didnt work for her- She is now on Metadate CD 10mg a day- it has done WONDERS for her. I dont think any parent wants to place their child on meds but as I explained to my dh, it will not be fair to our daughter when she can not help herself and stays in trouble, can not learn, ect.  Good Luck

hi jessica i am a adult with adhd andmy mom would give me melatonin when i was a kid it really helped me sleep i still use it and because it is a natural substance it is better then a chemical or prescription med also it is something that people with adhd have below normal levels of  it can make a big difference on how much sleep we get and how sane our parents are on the adderall i know other parents say it does help but you might want to try taking out refined suger and limit natural sugers to it still makes a big diffrence with me  so hang in there tamaraej

My daughter was on that for a while but I don't think that young.
She is now 16 and has had ADHD for a long time the current medicine she takes is Concerta 54 mg. Which seems to be OK

One thing to advise you on is do not let them put her on Ritalin I have heard to many horror stories about that. Also check out http://www.webmd.com/   They have a site for syptomos including a medication list for side affects etc.

Also when she starts school our daughter even though she is more then capable of passing all her class does not (still to this date in high school she is in 9 grade)  use her brains to her potential No matter how hard it is try not to let them promote her if she aces the CRTC progams our daughter was like that she did not care about school was flunking most of her classes and they would promote her we finally got sixth grade teachers to keep her back.  To me if one is flunking they should not be promoted unfortunately she can be an A/ B student if she really made up her mind to do it....

I hope this helps Please feel free to vent if you want to

Oh Seroquel is a sleeping med but also a weight gaining one. I know because I have mild bipolar and was on it for a while but gained 26 lbs in four months This I did not need

I do not go back and re=read what I post so please send me a personal message if you want to reply

I feel for you.  My 14 year old stepson has ADHD, and recently our doctor pointed out that he is fairly certain my 4 year old daughter has it too!  My 8 year old has Autism, and I am just so sad at this moment.
