The cp game ....

How is cerebral palsy actually diagnosed? His neorologist said mri's rarely actually pick up the evidence of this disease so how is one officially diagnosed if tests do not show it but the child has every single symptom in the book of this disease? I am at my ends wits. I want an answer not these games and for my son not getting any better no matter how much physical therapy. I cannot except that he just doesn't walk or do anything with no actual reason. I cannot take this crap anymore.

I HAVE  no idea. my DD had every sign of having CP her neuro even seen it but her MRI was clear so she said that it could be some other type of CP and we will just have to watch her. the treat ment doesnt change.

Yea but what other ways can they determine cp? seems to me the mri is pointless only picking up maybe 10% of all cp cases. I am bringing him to a developmental pediatrian who just deals with delays so maybe I will have some answers because the nightmare of every doctor so far is unreal. They all want to make money it seems and barely even discuss anything with me. It gets pretty damn tiredsome. Just make their money and don't give a rats ass about anyone.

And the early intervention here is horrible. I have been waiting for months already

Keep calling them. And if there is no at home therapy available, you can request an in clinic therapy. You can have up to 50% in clinic.

Maybe try a physiatrist, aka rehabilitation doctor. They are the experts on cp. The developmental Peds didn't help is at all.

I was referred to this dr by friends, his reg ped and my mil. He deals with a lot of cp but he does not take my insurance in his office but he will take on patients at a public clinic for special needs for patients who do not have the insurance he takes. I am waiting on this appointment. From what I hear he is good so I am keeping my fingers crossed

I am going to an IBR center here which deals with special needs for his pt until in house comes along. They do not spend much time with him but show me what to do with him. He just cries and screams whenever i try and do the excercises. I do not know if hes in pain or just stubborn because he has a stubborn side. I just wish the regular therapy would start already.

That's pretty normal. My DS cried that first year of therapy. Eventually he started to like it. Well at least tolerate it. How old is your son?

Some doctors are really hesitant to diagnose before age 2. My DS was diagnosed with cp in general at 11 months, but that was only because he had brain damage that showed up on ultrasound and a CT scan. The doctor wanted to get him additional therapy and support so he gave the diagnosis early. He wasn't given the type until 2.
