I broke my toe during a mishap with my son at Disney. Ouch. Its still not healed & no matter how hard i try to protect it i still kick stuff. Oh well, hurts for a bit, then its fine as long as i dont put 2 much pressure on it. Yesterday, i fell 'up' the stairs & landed dead onto my knee. Fluid is built up underneath the knee & the kneecap & due to a congenital defect in my knees they can not tell if i broke the cap or not... UGH! So im in this half cast, hard stuff under & wrapped in an ace bandage, at least i can take it off at night... Stuck on crutches!!!
2 days ago my son complained of a headache -all day- i took him to the Dr where he dismissed me. I swear hes a great Dr for my other son when it comes 2 medication for his ADHD but he has that "im holyer then tho" complex. He dismissed me for being an over parinoid mom. I have every right to be parinoid, my 4 and a half year old, tho healthy, is still very fragile.
Well he woke up and right away vomited. Ugh! No fun! Well it gets worse... He refused to eat/drink... He started off not wanting to open his eyes due to his head hurting, he wouldnt talk, he wouldnt move, he was just totally zombified. The poor boy was sick. Around noonish he vomited for the 2nd time. Okay im not alarmed yet, i tend to panic so im tryin 2 stay calm... Around 1215-1 he wouldnt stop vomiting, it was like he'd throw up & a minute later do it again. Just kept at it. With tylenol & motrin his fever never went below 99.9... Okay now im PANICED! I called the peds, told her whats been going on, she said go to the hospital but call the urologist to see which 1 he perfers you to go too, she suspected UTI because it can in some cases cause vomiting & extremely high fevers (at that point the worst it got was 101)... So i did... The urologist agreed to go to the hospital because if he cant hold anything down he doesnt want to give me a perscription for antibiotics for a UTI if something else might be going on too or if he cant even hold anything down it wont do him any good...
So we went to the Peds ER at the hospital he picked (luckily my fav!). We got in right away even tho there were several children ahead of us. The Dr apparently called & due to his medical history they didnt want to play around. We got there his fever was 99.7, whew! 20 minutes later i asked them to check it again, he felt warmer... 102.7!!! Okay i am panicing & so were they!!!
They gave him more medicine, some stuff to keep him from throwing up, and IV fluids. They checked him for strep, did blood work, and put a bag on his lil penis so we cold collect urine (my son can not control his urine flow due to a rare birth defect). They made me strip him down to his diaper & refuse blankets, they had to get teh fever down ASAP because once the child hits 101 the risks of seizures 10folds & with the fact his seizures arent grandmal they're 99% of the time undetectable unless under a careful eye of somebody who knows him (like me & daddy who can see the differences) but with him so sick it was even hard for us to figure it out...
My son would NOT move on the bed, for the 1st time EVER cried over an IV, would not allow the Dr to look in his throat, & just laid there eyes closed, just not moving AT ALL! breathing heavy & scaring the pants off of everybody around... (we know the Drs & nurses very well due to the fact we basically have lived there, the Dr & nurse happened 2 b 1 of the 1s that has seen him since birth due to our frequent trips to the ER)...
Well, after the fluids & something in his throat to help him, he did much better especially when the fever went back to 99. Perked up a bit. He started acting normalish. He started to come around. Started talking our ears off (i never thought id b happy 2 hear my son go on & on & on over nothing)...
Tests came back... Strep throat & a UTI... We wont know for 2-3 days if the amoxil she perscribed for the strep will help the UTI but we already have an appt wit the urologist on Tues so we should have teh results then & will make changes accordingly...
They decided NOT to admit him due to the fact he started acting like his normal self...
We get home & hes back to being the way he was prior to the hospital, spiking fevers, scaring the pants off of me. I gave him a warm bath, more motrin (tylenol was given @ hospital so it was too soon to give him more of that) and striped him down to his shirt & a thin blanket...
Fever went back down, tho he still is layin around sleepin again (dunno how since he slept all day!) he is doing better...
I cant sleep, im so scared his fever will spike while i sleep & he'll end up having a seizure & ill end up losing my baby (yes i know hes not a baby & yes i do have a child younger then him but he'll always b my baby just like my older son)... I fought for so long to make sure he didnt die, to make sure he lived to lose him to strep throat & a UTI...
If his fever spikes again or he starts acting weird im taking him back to the ER & ill tell them to admit us! I wish i just said "can you admit us for 24 hour watch" but with the way he was acting the Dr thought we could go home & i agreed (*smacks head on wall! dumb choice mama!*)
So i swear i just cant catch a break... I am hurt & now my baby is sick!!! I took off my half cast or whatever you want to call it to take care of him better, oh well if i hurt, i just want to be able to move my leg & bend my knee to care for him...
Now lets just hope that the other 2 kids plus the adults dont catch the strep...
Quoting zolanmel:OMG!!!*HUGS*!!!!!!! Hope he feels better soon!
