Where are you from?
I have always been interested in where people are from. Since I have settled here in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, I enjoy listening to stories from people seeking to define or construct something in their lives by moving. I am engaged by the personal failures and successes that we either leave behind or later realize. Everyone at one time or another has expierienced some kind of move. The expense and hassle of packing and transporting our families, pets, and household belongings can create stressful scenerios. Searching for a new job and home can equally represent both complicated implications and success with income and occupational status. Long distance moves can disrupt or even sever emotional ties that exist with friends and family. And yet, the uncertainties of new surroundings, social activities and finacial securities represent a new and exciting adventure. As we define our identities and motivations for moving, I hope together we can learn a little about each other. Whether you were born and raised in the same area or recently transplanted, I believe we are all looking for a general acceptance to be individuals. Do you feel accepted where you live or like an alien?

Where I live in the Shenandoah Valley, things were consistently growing; keeping a balance for all certainly has it's battles. It is commonplace these days to hear of the change that becomes about in any community.
Civic and private groups pull together to publicly debate the topics. Our friends and families gabble about it. It is the progression of this change that is either exciting or frightening to see. People from all over continue to emerge with ideas to keep a sense of continuity to this community. What are you doing? How do you feel about "new" culture's or people moving into your area?
