my son who is now almost three, has been in early intervention since he was 13 months old.  I knew he was delayed, but I didnt know the actuality of it all.  Before he could walk he was almost depressed because he seemed so eager to walk.  Things got better when he began walking at 13 months old.  I was told he was delayed in speech, cognitive, motor skills, and yadadadadada. I was beyond confused and upset, blaming myself for something i didnt know if i caused.  I started looking up actual diagnoses because i have just been told he is "developmentally delayed" I guess its something but as a mom i wanted an answer and then i could figure out where to go. So from then on he recieves speech, ot and pt.  and recently outgrew "birth to three:"He was always behind on his development. He really doesnt talk, he doesnt know how to ride a trike, he recently just learned how to actually run.  When he gets excited he will run back and fourth and wave his hands around. He can say some words but doesnt use them all the time. He can hand me his sippy when hes thirsty, and usually grabs things he wants. He can go to his booster seat when he is hungry, and go to his bed when he is tired. Forget potty training, everytime i sit him on the toilet he starts to cry. He will try to play with other kids, but i dont think they know how to play with him so he is content playing by himself or his sister. Its every moms nightmare when they here there is something wrong with their child.  Not knowing how to help them is even worse.  We were given picture cards to help him choose between things and help me understand more of what he wants, but i still feel lost!!! He will be attending john sevier preschool for delays and special needs in august.  I just meet with coordinator and we are setting up a psycological review for him.  Im hoping they can at least tell me if he has an actual dianosis instead of developmentally delayed.  He seems to be the only one like him, i feel so helpless. i want him to make friends, and i want to find more moms with the same issues so i can actually relate to somone.  He is a really great kid though, hes loving and loves the whole family, well behaved, and usually very happy! tell me someone is going through this with me!!

My son is 28 months old.  He is delayed in his gross motor skills.  He was delayed in speech at 16 months (corrected age) but now we are up to speed.  He just started walking 3 months ago.  He didn't roll over til he was 11 months old, crawled at 15 months.  Luckily he is very social, however he does have an older sibling, many cousins, and attends a small in home daycare part time.   We started therapy when he was 3 months old.  I'm so glad we started early.

Well, i am glad there are more children out there! For the most part he seems pretty normal, ive researched aspbergers and autism and everything under sun.  He has some signs but i dont think its enough to say he is autistic.  He is just really behind in his speech.  does have some awkward movement like when hes happy. he will wave his hand and run in place.  But he tries to be social, but his speech is stoppig him.  If you ever wanna talk just friend me! will talk more.

Welcome to the group! What doctors have seen your son? What are they saying? Have you had him seen by a developmental ped or a pediatric Nuerologist?
If you haven't seen a specialist I would think they would be a good place to start.

LOL I read the part about him getting excited.  Makiyla is 8 and you can ALWAYS tell when she is excited.  We went to the furniture store the other day and we were looking at a table, but the kid section was in eye shot.  She starts twirling and doing all these ballet type moves.  I mean if we weren't in FURNITURE STORE it would have been funny and we actually laughed all the way home about how all of the sudden we just saw flying hands and twirling skirt.  She is still just Developmentally Delayed with no real diagnosis.  I am beyond frustrated.  We have lived in 3 states and no other answers. OT is FINALLY fading out! But speech ... she sounds like my 3 year old, and right now we are doing summer spelling words ... cat, pot and hat.  =/ BUT she's getting there

She will get better. Braden is such an amazing little boy. he has more love and such innocence that he melts your heart.  i just cant wait to hear his beautiful little voice to let me know hes okay.  Ive been told he may not have the social skills but everyone who knows him thinks he will be an artist or an engineer. Either way he will make me one happy momma lol if you ever want to talk friend me.

my son has gone and is going thru the same thing. my son is 5 now and is in the process of potty training now. my son was actually genetically tested to find out if there was a cause for his delays and sure enough my son was diagnosed with a chromosomal disorder. his ped. suggested the testing. maybe u can talk to ur son's ped. and see if he can be tested to find out more about why hes having delays. as for the potty training, that will come in time. my son use to cry and fight me when i would try putting him on the potty. hes in kindergarten now and he uses the potty at achool, im still working on him using it at home.
