(hugs) my ds has a motor planning issue and we didn't even really try potty training till he was 3.5. He is 4 now (bday in nov). I consider him potty trained. He can't aim but he can do everything else. I used a book called the potty training journey. What are the issues you think ate causing your son's potty training issues. For my son it was that I couldn't tell when he had to go to the bathroom. Now that I can tell when he needs to go it makes much easier. The book helped with it.

Thanks! Hes on school break now. But he gets confused. He'll have his good days and bad. Last night he went on the potty fine even being out. Today he kept having accidents. Hes confused from school being in diapers.

I haven't even considered trying potty training yet, but am SO exctited to hear your son is starting this at 3.5! I thought I'd have to wait much longer. That's great!

It sounds like you need to get the school to work with you on having a consistent potty aproach at school as well as at home. Is there some reason they want him in diapers?

I guess they tried putting him on the potty and he didnt want to. I've been trying it since 18 months. Had it going real good but he saw my friend change her son and messed his head up. I keep telling him santa is bringing him big boy underwear!

Im in the same boat with my 3 yr old he has good days (the weekend) and he has bad days (after school) the whole diaper to underwear thing isnt catching up with him. He will tell us after he goes or as he is going...its trial and error they are working with him at school and there are a lot of tears over it...he doesnt like their potty its to "loud" for him so he is afraid of it. Good Luck momma hope he has a break through

Is potty training in his IEP? I would suggest talking to them for suggestions.

Count yourself lucky.  My son turned six in July, and is still dancing merrily in the puddles he leaves in his room.  I am at my wits end with this child.  We tried stickers, he gets mad and wants the whole sheet.  We tried the potty watch, he would cry when it went off.  We have the potty monkey, which he likes, but only when it is convenient for him.  I cheer and sing and do our homemade potty dance, but the truth is, if he does not want to go to the bathroom, he won't .  The school insisted on putting him back in pull-ups, which I did not object to because I know how hard it is to clean up after a poopy mess in underwear.  At home, he wears underwear.  We have about 50 pair.  I have learned that boxers and boxer briefs are a no no.  Poop rolls right out the leg.  He leaves a trail, like a little mouse.  There are days when my timing is right getting him onto the potty, and he will tell me sometimes that he needs to go.  Going by himself is another issue.  Sometimes he will go into the bathroom, climb up onto the toilet, and poop.  The only problem is that he forgets to pull off his undies first!  It makes me wish for Prozac!  I'm not giving up on potty training, but there are days that I am afraid that I may lose my cool with my little bug, and I know that it would just make things worse.  I try my best to look at all of his other accomplishments, and not focus on the fact that he just sat in my lap and peed, but I have to say that my gray hairs have started to increase!  Good luck to you though dear :)

This was given to me by a developmental pediatrician at the end of my son's last autism testing appointment.  There is some good information here.  It may not all be appropriate for your child, but you can skim through this and maybe there will be something that can help.
