SPD and Food Issues

Hey Mama's!

My DS was recently dx'd with Sensory Processing Disorder. He had yet to start services of OT, Speech w/ feeding therapy & Special Instruction. We're having some major feeding issues right now. He's refusing to eat the few things he does eat.

For the last 9 months the only thing he will eat is: Chicken Nuggets (only one brand), French Fries, Sweet Potatoe Fries, Tator Tots, French Toast (which i sneak baby veggies in) Pancakes (again with the veggies) Cinnamon Rolls, Yogurt (drinkable kind only) & Fruit. He eats a ton of crunchy-veggie straws, doodles, crackers etc. We also give him the gummy vitamins. The liquid made him gag and throw up.

Over the last few days he has started boycotting Nuggets, Tator tots, Pancakes & French Toast. Leaving not alot to be consumed. I've tried doing crunchy before meals, using the electric toothbrush, Seltzer, swinging, compressions etc. To no avail. :/

He's starting to refuse his sippy cup. Usually we do Fruitables juice..trying to get veggies in there someway! Now he just wants his bottle with milk. Which he would ONLY get during Nap and Bedtime. He throws himself onto the floor until i give in. I've also noticed that he is starting to get thinner. His diapers aren't as wet as normal.

I just purchased Pediasure for him to try to get him SOMETHING. He won't drink it. I'm at the end of my rope. I'm tired between the tantrums, biting and hyper activity. I just want him to have what he needs.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank You! <3 <3

My son was also recently diagnosed with SPD and has severe eating issues.  A lot of people aren't  familiar with sensory processing disorder so it makes it even more difficult.  We are starting a day treatment program next month for feeding/swallowing.  Early intervention occupational therapy has made a noticeable difference in other areas but the texture/food issues are really intense and hard to deal with.  They have some good websites on SPD and support groups out there but not always local unfortunately.  More is out there for autism and other disorders, SPD centered groups are in their infancy, we have a long way to go... check out the book, THE OUT OF SYNC CHILD, I loved it and got a lot out of it.  And hang in there!
