My son is an avid reader but we are running out of ideas for him. Our library is large and a bit overwhelming so just going to check out what looks good doesn't work for him.
He's reading at a 6+ grade level, if that matters. He likes series books so that makes it harder. He liked The Hunger Games, The Ranger's Apprentice, Percy Jackson, and funny books like Captain Underpants (but that's "too easy" according to him). He was just *eh* about Narnia, 39 Clues and the Egyptian version of Percy Jackson, and really hated Harry Potter.
Any ideas?

There is a book series...... Septimus Heap (think that's what it is) - hey might like that
I forgot about the Wimpy Kid books. He's read those, too.
I'll look at the other series, thanks1
"Punished" by David Lubar (a kid who gets in trouble at the library is punished by only being able to speak in puns and other wordplay)
Molly Moon series by Georgia Byng (they look like books for girls, but my boys liked them, too)
Conspiracy 365 series by Gabrielle Lord
Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz
Jimmy Coates series by Joe Craig
Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage
Simon Bloom series (Gravity Keeper & Octopus Effect) by Michael Reisman
FarWorld series by J. Scott Savage (but only the first 2 books have been written, the next 2 books are on hold)
It's not really a series, but how about Hardy Boys books? There have some newer volumes, many in 3-book trilogy form.
I know there are a ton more books that my kids have read, but I can't think of them. I usually wander the aisles of the library FOR my kids and pick books I think will strike their fancy because they get a bit overwhelmed at the library, like your son. I've ended up with some books they didn't like as well, but usually I can find some they like.
The Mysterious Benedcit Society series
The Time Thief trilogy
The H.I.V.E. series by Mark Walden is a HUGE favorite of both my son and many of the boys I teach. It's a British series and book 6 is being released in the U.S. in March.
Tunnels series by Roderick Gordon.
I Am Number Four series, but you might want to screen. Definitely more violent than the others because it's for older kids.
That should keep you busy for awhile. My son is 13 and has read most of the books your son has read, and is now going through the upper level YA books. He just finished THe Book Thief, and is now reading Void. If I think of any others, I'll let you know. ;-)
Michigan and American Chillers by Johnathon Rand and Goosebumps they aren't really series but my 10 year old son loves both of them and he's at a 6-7 grade reading level.
My oldest is my dd, so she's more into Dork Diaries and dear dumb diary, but she really likes Gary Paulson and Lois Lawry books. She's also reading Goosebumps and choose your own adventure books. What about Roald Dahl books? He wrote Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. CS Lewis, he wrote The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Louis Sacher, who wrote the Sideways School books (dd LOVES these also). Or Lemony Snicket series of unfortunate events?
