When you make dinner and a child won't eat it, do you let them have something else?
This past week my 12yr old has become the worlds pickiest eater. I don't make any off the wall meals, they are all pretty normal...chicken, tacos, chili, etc.
It's getting frustrating. I don't want her to not get dinner so I told her she has the options of Ramen noodles or peanut butter and jelly if she doesn't eat what I make.
What happens at your house in this situation?
Same as your house + no dessert, if she will not try what I make. If I make a dinner I know she doesn't like, she makes herself something else and gets dessert.
I stand in my kitchen and make ONE meal. If no one eats it than you are more than happy to make your own meal but i will not do it for you. Plus they have to clean up after themselves. This applies to my husband as well. We usually don't have this problem but there have been times. There are nights when it is "fend for yourself". Than my kids can eat whatever (k, not chocolate or candy for dinner!), just if it's a bad hot dog with no veggies one day.
Quoting Barabell:I could probably count the times on one hand that it has happened in our house. My son loves more foods than I do.
He's old enough to fix himself a sandwich or cereal if he doesn't like dinner, but it's just really a non-issue at our house.
I'm sorry your daughter has suddenly become picky. :(
My son's the same way as yours. Sorry your daughter is all of a sudden very picky. I get tired of dealing with my picky 6yo.
There is usually something on the dinner table that they will eat. If not then they can go hungry. I only cook what I know everyone likes or liked at some point. We do try NEW things weekly. Usually a new veggie or fruit that is in season at the store. Or I prepare the veggie or fruit a different way. They love trying something new.
Normally they will clean their plate before 8pm because they want the snack we have prepared. Which is something sweet.
