Has your T(w)een ever gone on an OUT OF STATE school trip? As in overnight for a few DAYS?
Please tell me more? WHAT did you do the first TIME your child was away, WITHOUT YOU....
HOW did YOU HANDLE IT????
MY 13yo Aspie is going on an 8th grade Class trip to Washington D.C. for 3 days. (That's 7 hours from home WITHOUT STOPPING.) There are NO parent Chaperones allowed, only School Teachers and Staff. It will be his first trip away from home without family.

My kids haven't done it yet- my oldest is going to camp for a whole week this summer, but it is not that far away. When I was in high school I did go on various trips far from home- There was Philadelphia/New York City. Norfolk, VA, Jacksonville and Pensacola, FL and a couple of others. We always came home unscathed. It sounds like a fun trip- my husband and I went to DC a couple of years ago and had a great time with all the sight seeing and museums.

No, I don't even remember seeing anything about it- if I would have, I would have went. I am of German Jewish decent, so this would be something that I want to see. Next time we go I will definitely go there.

Did you go to the holocaust museum while in DC?

I read and watch everything I can!
When we move in the summer, it's the first place I must visit. I heard its very very moving. I can only imagine!

My bil lives in DC, so I am sure that at some point we will be going back to visit... I am a history buff so I prefer history museums over art museums so that is why I amazed that I didn't know about this one. When you go you have to tell me about it.

I'm obsessed with anything WW2.

Mine have never done this. I'm not sure I would like it at all. If I was going I would be okay with it.

It is a bit nerve-wracking. 4 students by themselves per hotel room! It's a big class, 13 and 14 year olds - only 8th graders and their teachers, the principals, and support staff. (3 packed busses, 15 chaperones, 1 school nurse.)
No cell phone use allowed during the trip. (Only when they are back at the hotel room,) They will be on a fast paced schedule, have to manage their money eating out at restaurants. Yeah, it's different when there aren't ANY parent's going on a field trip. But I know the principal, and several of his teachers, and one teacher that knows him VERY WELL will be going, so I'm more comfortable knowing he will be there.
