I know ds2 and dd won't have to go. I don't think ds1 will have to- unless he totally bombs his finals, he should pass everything. Barely in a couple of class, but pass.
Ds1 did go to summer school between 3rd and 4th grades when he didn't pass all of the I-STEP test (state testing).

No. I sent her to Summer School last year and refuse to do it again.
Our District offers summer school but no transportation. They also charge 3 dollars for residents which is no big deal.
But for summer school and if you're not a resident. YIKES! It's expensive.
I sent her last year as I mentioned and I don't like the fact that other districts attend with ours. It's crazy busy there. There has to be 5 or 6 other districts that use ours for Summer School.
No, my son does not need it.
I did sign him up between 1st and 2nd grade. My son goes to a language immersion school, and neither my husband nor I speak that language. So I thought the extra exposure over the summer would help him. I guess the material was too easy for him, and so he spent most of the summer school being like a teacher's helper. The teacher said he was bored, and so I didn't sign him up again.
Transportation is provided to summer school. They also provide a free breakfast and lunch at all elementary schools (whether it is for neighborhood students or kids in summer school). When my son went, they also went on a field trip, but I think they stopped doing that to save money.
