So we are heading into the last two weeks of school and my daughter who is in 6th grade came home yesterday and let us know the new rules for the last two weeks.
They are not allowed to take backpacks and they are not allowed to bring lunchboxes. All there work must be in one binder only and there lunch must be in clear bags. I asked why and she told me that the teachers told her that kids get more "rambunctious" at the end of the school year and this is what happens:
one boy at a middle school in our district got in trouble and was not allowed to come back to school. He tried coming back anyway and the teacher wouldn't let him. He came back and shot her. Another child came to school in another school in our district and shot/stabbed 3 other students. What the heck is happening these days???? I soooo want to homeschool! Plus, we use the word "rambunctious"???
THen the thought goes through my head that certain knives can be in pockets and a gun can be hidden in a binder so what exactly is this going to prevent?
This is crazy. We also have a guy in the city driving around and trying to pick up kids on their way home from school. They sent home a sketch of what the guy looks like today.

That all sounds so crazy to me. WOW! I would be considering my options as far as schools go for my child(ren).
I hope they catch that scum driving around trying to kidnap children.
I hope they catch him too. I was glad to hear from my son's teacher at a conference that we had with her at the beginning of this school year that she offered him a ride one day when it was starting to rain and he declined and I was proud of him. She may be his teacher but I don't know her well enough to have him get in her car. He wouldn't even walk up to the car to speak to her. She was telling us this because she thought he was scared and I thought no he just knows not to do something like that. He had a rain jacket on and an umbrella so he was fine. He gets driven now and my daughter walks with a group of friends to and from.I am still trying to figure out homeschooling but both me and my husband have to work.
I'm sure it would be tough to home school. Especially with both of you working.
Is there another school in the district your children can attend? I know there isn't in our area. We'd have to pay for private or Catholic school.
tHis hasn't happened at either of my children's schools. The whole county is just taking precautions because it has happened in county schools. We live in the Palm Beaches of Florida so I feel that the bigger the city the worse the violence gets and I came from a small town but moved here when I met my husband. We had a problem last year with a group of boys that were after my daughter and the principal didn't want to do anything about it so we ended up going to the superintendent and school board to get her moved from that school the last month of school. It was hard for us but her safety was much more important than her finishing her 5th grade year with this group of boys (one who has shot people with BB gun, another threatened our daughter with a baseball bat). We moved to the schools we are at now and nothing has happened that was near that bad. Some older girls were picking on our younger son on the way home from school one day and we contacted the school and that principal squashed it immediately. Nothing has happened since.
WOW! I'm glad everything is much better with your DD and son now. I'm also glad to hear your sons principal squashed it immediately!
